How Rubio is painting Wolves into a corner

Post#1 » by MNPacersfan » Wed Jun 30, 2010 10:15 pm

So, due to the loophole for internationals in the collective bargaining agreement, if Rubio stays in Spain another year, he's a free agent and is not limited by the rookie scale. The Wolves will have rights to negotiate with him first, (check out the Spurs and Tiago Splitter right now), but if they don't have any cap space and he's unwilling to accept the mid-level he may just stay in Europe until the Wolves jettison him to another team.

So do the Wolves:
A. Save a lot of cap space with the full understanding that Rubio is smart enough to pull off the scenario above.
B. Trade him to a team with a hefty amount of salary that will be expiring in 2011 (one example - the Knicks have Eddy Curry coming off the books next summer).

The Spaniard has Kahn by the short ones, whether Kahn is ready to admit it or not.
Have you guys had this discussion yet?

We've had like two 100+ page threads on Rubio, and a third one currently at 24 pages.

So yeah, it's been discussed. That's what the Rubio thread is for.

If he opts out of his rookie deal, I am sure the MLE is fine for him. I doubt you sign a rookie for more then the MLE anyway.

Wolves are not moving Ricky, we have made this clear. Enjoy spending your free agent cash on Ty Thomas and Shannon Brown.
