Could LeBron's life be in jeapordy?

Looking at this whole situation from the outside, a person would answer this question with a resounding NO! However, when people become attached emotionally to a specific cause, history has shown us that they sometimes make irrational decisions when things do not go as they want or plan.

The debacle at Kent State, the Olympics, every political assassination ever, every bombing that has ever been planned... I can go on and on with this list of examples, but it would serve no purpose other than to put into words, the obvious. Most murders are committed because of emotion. Whether that emotion is hate, love, jealousy, or another, doesn't really matter. The point that I am trying to make here is that I could see a fan, who's life is devoid of vary many friendships and extracurricular activities; who's only real love is in the games he watches on TV. This same fan would probably play sport-themed video games, and perhaps be part of fantasy sports leagues... to take up the free-time in-between his/her favorite sports team's regular season.

For the sake of this article, let us say this is a fan of the Cavaliers. And, that LeBron left the Cavs for the Bulls, New York, New Jersey, or Miami. What if this fan's emotional connection to the Cavaliers was so great, that he/she decided to try and take out LeBron... or even someone close to him? Perhaps his mother, or girlfriend?

The individual would obviously be sick (emotionally disturbed), but with all the notoriety that LeBron gets, and the very real hurt that this person would feel at the loss of not only LeBron, but his/her ability to root for a winner (the Cavs), I could see this type of person deciding that he/she didn't want to live anymore (obviously this individual would have previous thoughts of suicide,etc), and that he/she would take out LeBron and become a hero (in his/her mind).

Many of you may think this is not even a remote possibility, however, history is littered with famous people who are killed by a crazed fan. There have been even more attempts, than actual murders that have succeeded.

Don't dismiss this as something that is impossible. It isn't. I'd hope that nothing like this ever happened to anyone...but the truth is that there are estimated to be over 5,000 serial killers on the loose, at any given time. If there are 5,000 serial killers out there who would kill multiple people in horrendous ways; then I can nearly guarantee that there is a person out there that would make an attempt on LeBron, if given the opportunity and reasoning to convince himself that he had to do it.

Weird stuff to think about... but after reading all of these forums, and the hate that is thrown at people because of the possibility of LeBron leaving... I can only imagine the hate people will feel if he actually does leave.

Then you are the exact type of person I was thinking about. Anyone who gets that emotionally invested into a free-time activity, has some real issues. :wink:

Just about any person who's name is in the limelight could be in jeopardy if the wrong moron gets an interest in them. I don't see any rational Cavs fan to seriously threaten Lebron at all.

Some crazy Knicks fan on the other hand.....

These types of posts disgust me and only feed into LeBron's narcissism and this warped perception that Ohio is only LeBron James. Is it possible there could be a deranged fan if he leaves? Of course. However, the truth is that it is no more likely than you being killed by a random psycho killer. At the end of the day, LeBron is only a basketball player. After what I am witnessing this off-season, the hype is overshadowing his rather miniscule accomplishments of the player.

I was actually thinking would he have to sneak his family out of Cleveland if say he signs with the Knicks. I mean you can pay people to pack and move for you. I am going to guess and say he has an evacuation plan for his family should he decide to sign elsewhere.

And the dude who posted the initial creepiness is a bit on point. Anybody remember when Lane Kiffin decided out of the blue to resign so he could go to USC? Wow, Knoxville TN went nuts!! The fans all showed up at the practice facility and wouldnt let Kiffin his staff and some of his family out for a few hours until the police arrived. The TN fans were in morning for weeks!
