Why not Tracy McGrady?

Post#1 » by thrilla3 » Thu Jul 1, 2010 12:23 am

I was looking on Chad Ford's top free agent list earlier today, and a name that I saw at the bottom, under a list of "others" was T-Mac.

Now I know that this is a guy that has battled numerous knee injuries and was not exactly impressive with the Knicks last season, but for a team like us, the Wolves, why not throw him a little money to come play the 2 for us? When healthy, he would instantly be our best "scorer" per se and would be a good fit in between Flynn and Johnson.

He would also add a name to our team that is recognized by even the "casual" fan, and may spark a little interest in our team.

I know that this is more so a random thought, but he is someone that absolutely nobody is talking about and we might be able to get away with throwing him 2yr/14 million or so to see if he has anything left in the tank. The guy is coming off a max contract, so it could do it. I don't know. Your thoughts?

There's a reason no one is talking about him... He's washed up...

Haha yeah I get that, but if we get him cheap, it'd be a chance I'd take to see if theres anything left.

To answer the title question:

Because he's finished.

He might be a good guy to put at the end of the bench and teach boys how to really ball.

He wants to play for a contender. He's put it out there that he wants to play for the Lakers.

Do you mean "waste their talent" when you say "really ball?"

Think he'd get the China vote for the ASG due to name recognition?

I dislike McGrady as a player. He's never been that impressive to me. However, if we could get him cheap I don't think it could be such a bad thing. He's another good ball handler/passer and he can hit the occasional 3. I mean we took a chance on Darko and it worked well, so far anyway, and we're taking a chance on Webster.

He had a few good games for New York but didn't do much else and D'Antoni even admitted he didn't want him back. He's still got some skills but his knees are shot. He'll never be physically able to play starter quality minutes and his best bet is chasing a title with LA or whoever gains the power in the East.

He will probably end up with Wade, Lebron, and Bosh in Miami taking the vet minimum so he can get a ring.

There was a rumor when I was down in Orlando a couple weeks ago that said Tmac would comeback for vet min to replace Barnes.

I don't know if the radio guys just threw it out their because he wanted him back, but it did make sense.

In his ORL days I think he over did it. His whole team was scrubbed out and he was the only player barely carrying that team to an 8th seed in the playoffs. Just the wear n tear of his body, dude went beyond hard. He did admit though that he slacked off in his last days in ORL. Point is that he's gonna ride the bench and play backup minutes on a championship level team. No mutual interest.

The Wolves don't throw money at him because I don't think we are really interested in improving so much that we would be willing to pay a guy like T-Mac who will be too old by the time we may actually be able to conted.

He'll be good for one solid game a week, and that's only if he doesn't play at all in the other weeks' games. He's just too old, tired, and broke.

Also, does a team like MIA even take a chance on him, as he is basically basketball's anti-rabbitt's foot?
