Wait...the Wiz got 6 mil in the deal? That's pretty frickin sly of Ernie to pull that off.

Where did you see that?
It would be pretty easy to arrange the deal that way. Separate the pick and Hinrich into separate deals of 3 million each.

But wouldn't the Wizards have to give something back in each deal?

I asked about the Kings taking Hinrich over on their board....(snipped the pleasantries out)
and got this:

No media link to back that up yet, but I asked if they had one.

We may need to sign Bolo Yeung as a 12th man.

Re: Wiz Acquiring Hinrich and Seraphin on 7/8. Details pending.
could we have done this
1) Gotten Beasley and the 18th for Miami
2) Gotten Heinrich and the 17th from Chicago
We would of have the 1st,17,18th,and 23rd pick(after trading 30 and 35 for 23)
that too me would of been a good offseason. As a rebuilding team, we would of taken a low risk-high reward chance on Beasley who i still think can be a good player.
Why didnt we just do tihs?

I think Beasley is a high risk. He is low risk from a production standpoint, but he is a high risk in terms of behavior. A bunch of drama with a troubled player is the last thing this team needs.
However I think the upside of Beasley possibly living up to his potential is worth taking the risk. One thing that does lower the risk is he is expiring, so if there are issues he can just be waived. I am not 100% sure I would go for Beasley, but I like it better than the Yi deal.

I dont think there is any risk with Beasley...he isnt signed long term so as you said...if he sucks or is disruptive, you get rid of him. But if he turns out to be a beast...you got a steal. That too me is a good risk you take if your in our shoes.

I just want to weigh in since I was at sea for the draft.
I believe getting Hinnie was a brilliant stroke on several levels. First, if we are keeping Gil and trying to win (unlikely), then Hinnie is great for Arenas (and I've wanted him here for years). Arenas needs a player running next to him who can defend points and shooting guards; can hit the trey; and can distribute to allow Arenas to switch in and out of being the primary ballhandler. Hinnie hits on all those notes, plus he's a leader (which takes the pressure off Arenas to be one).
If, however, we are tanking (by trading Arenas for cap), then getting Hinnie is equally brilliant. Hinnie is a leader, defender and trey shooter -- all things we Wall to develop. He plays hard despite being on losing teams. And he is a proven mentor.
Tanking, without developing a culture of losing, is a magic trick. To do so, to lose a couple seasons yet keep fighting to win, it'll take a blend of personalities that won't quit. It will take a blend of leaders, mentally tough players and eager youth. During this period, I would view almost half the roster as a means to develop the other half (as opposed to longterm pieces we are looking to produce wins).
Serphin is a high risk/high reward type. That's exactly the type of players we should be shooting for where we are tanking or not. If we aren't tanking, we'll need homerun steals to be able to build. If we are tanking, then we need to risk everything until we get another franchise player. I wouldn't even push to bring him over. That saves him a year of losing and the risk that he will develop a loser's mentality. We want all of our assets (players and cap) to pop in three years or so. The goal would be to keep acquiring assets that will all come to fruition at the right time (not having us be too good prematurely).

Agreed, but not for fear of Wall. Drama queens that emote when they don't get their way is not our ideal addition on an ultra-young team. Regarding Wall, I think this guy has his head screwed on fairly tight. I don't see him deviating based on one or two malcontents. The bigger issue though is overall team chemistry. We have enough potential headcases and knuckleheads as it is. We have two in the front court and one in the back. I think those are manageable, but lets not press our luck.

I assume you're referring to Blatche and Arenas, but who's the 2nd frontcourt example?

McGee, who clearly has motivation issues. He has a great motor on the court, but he obviously doesn't put in the work in the gym or in the film room.

I was thinking the same, but in light of his apparent nudge forward late last year, I wouldn't want to label him a "drama queen" even if he is one of the "potential headcases and knuckleheads."
Anytime a player doesn't bring guns into the locker room, I call that progress.

I'm guessing Tony Starks McGee is the other. He's no headcase, but he's certainly got a touch of the knucklehead about him.
Of course, if we're setting the bar that low, then Nick Young probably qualifies as well.

McGee definitely still has essences of knucklehead in him, yeah. Not drama queen vibes though.

I think he's a goofball, but I don't see how it's a problem. Has he ever done anything concrete to give you guys the impression that he's a ticking time bomb? I don't see it at all.

+1
There might be some focus issues, but I think he's good people if immature. I also agree, as mentioned above, that he at least has a great motor in games.
The only thing I could see about him that would be a negative as far as team chemistry would be his hunger for taking shots, but even then, his tools are so nice that I can't say I'm really in opposition. He just needs some more reps on his touch and a bit more discipline (or rather, trust that if he passes the ball out of a bad situation, he well might get it back shortly in a good situation).
It remains to be seen whether he can put it together as a post up scorer, so he might eventually have to go away from that and establish the pick and roll as his bread and butter with with a smattering of face-up isos.
But I could see the idea that some teammates might roll their eyes at his shot selection at times.
