Do we know how old YI JIANLIAN really is?

The other day I spoke to a good friend of mine who lives over in China and I asked him this very same question and this is what he told me...

All that we really know is he was born in the 1980s. After that it is anybody's guess to how old he actually is. He very well could be close to being 30 .

His spiky hair style enhances his youthful appearance. Perhaps he should consider blue or purple streaks?

23? 26? 30? He's younger than I am.

I think your friend made a typo. It's not the 1980's, it's the 1890's. The 90's, man. The 90's when all was good in your world. Sleep well now, my friend.

I'm guessing he's still under 30, so no problem.

You know it is funny that you brought up the 1990s because here is a picture of him in 1997 when according to his parents he was just 10 years old.

In the picture he does not look 10.

He looks to be around 14 or 15 years old which would make him around 28 years old right now.

That is exactly around the same age my friend thinks he is.

I'm guessing that he's a one and done ninth man here, so I don't care if he's 22 or 30.

The 1990's? Funny that should come up as, I don't know if you heard, but things were much better back then.

...because here is a picture of him in 1997

1997? He must look so happy in that picture as he hadn't yet heard about the impending name change.

The way I see it we either just acquired a 23 year old with plenty of potential or a 28 year old veteran to mentor our younger guys. Right? :D

In one of these threads yesterday DCZards posted a transcript from a conference call between Wiz season ticket holders & Wiz peeps (Ernie etc) and the question was asked. Ernie said that he has seen Yi's birth certificate and that Yi is 22. Then-again, who cares, Yi is marshmallow-soft whether he's 22 or 32 and he won't be here next year.

The years most floated on Chinese boards are 1984, 1985, and 1987. So take your pick.

Those real chinse fans knew that Yi was born on 1984, undoubtedly.

Believe me, he can play. He will be a good backup for Blache.

Yi will be good..as long as John Wall plays well. Players like Yi..in fact, every player benefits from great PG's. Look at all of Jason Kidd's ex players and where they are now.

Yi is older than the teacup used by the first dragon of the celestial dawn.

*Bows to wisdom of venerable balding sage*

Glad to see we haven't got an official "incredibly sucky Yi" thread up yet; willing to take over/under bets on how many games it takes to appear. And will the IS Hinrich thread appear first?
