If the Bucks stay healthy, they may likely be a top five team in the East. They are a solid tough team.

That's even without a healthy Michael Redd.

That's what I'm wondering. Seem pretty similar only CV will occasionally have a big scoring game while Gooden has the occasional big rebounding game.

I guess Gooden being traded twice a year will be on hiatus for awhile since no one is going to want that contract.

Bucks are looking to move Gooden and will be now for the next 5 years.

Terrible move.

Hammond won the executive of the year last year for a reason. He hasn't made any moves since he took over that really screwed us over. I reserve any further judgment for when I hear the specifics of the contract and when I see how he plays. Having said that, ****!!

Another GM overpaying. Another example of why no one should have sympathy for these GM's crying about the current CBA.

That is a fairly empty award.

People are being too harsh. 6 million is a fair price for a big that has proven he can play. Especially for a team that isn't going to have free agents lining up.

Holy god, I was expecting vet min to 3 mil a year for 2-3 years.

Wow, what an absolutely horrible contract. Wonder what Hammond is gonna give Salmons now. The max?

I mean, he basically just way overbid against himself, didn't he? Who else was going to give Drew Gooden anywhere near that?

Plenty of players are going to be OVVVVER paid this year.

+1

This pretty much means every FA will get paid more than you think. A few months ago we thought Ray Allen, Marcus Camby and Haywood might go for the MLE.

Again, probably a terrible, terrible signing.

But John Hammond has shown in the past (Detroit, where Dumars somehow got all the credit) that he has a knack for finding 2nd-tier, not-reached-their-potential guys and doing well with it. Billups played for like 4 teams before going to Detroit. He got Sheed for dirt cheap when a lot of people thought he was too much of a problem guy.

I liked the Maggette trade - I think they'll get great production out of Maggette, and he will fit very well there.

But Gooden.... I mean, if we had heard, in a few weeks... Drew Gooden signed to 4 year, 16 million dollar contract I'd probably say "ha, smart move by Hammond! Get a veteran guy on a cheap enough deal to fit the exact position you need. Genius!

but that seems a bit steep for gooden.

You'd be surprised. $6MIL per is totally reasonable for what Drew Gooden gives you and you might say his price could have gone up when the other bigger dominoes started falling and you have teams with capspace and no players to show for it.

So who had Drew Gooden as the first domino to fall??

Completely and utterly shocking, but perhaps the deal is only partially guaranteed or something. I had Drew's value at around the BAE, wow was I off. :dontknow:

Jefferson's opting out, then this?
Irony
Step 1: Hate the Lakers
Step 2: Watch LeBron go to Miami
Step 3: Call Heat fans, "bandwagoners"
Step 4: Root for Lakers, Hate the Heat
Step 5: Refused to be classified as Laker "bandwagoner" since Heat formed.

Yeah, the people calling him a minimum/BAE guy are nuts. Gooden was 11/8 last year, 14/10 when starting, and is 12/8 career. The MLE has been given to guys like Luke Walton, Sasha Vujacic, Vlad Radmanovic, Stromile Swift, Brian Cardinal, Mark Blount, DeSagana Diop, Jared Jeffries, etc.

Also, Milwaukee has to overpay because they're Milwaukee. They don't get media market discounts, and they don't get ring-chaser discounts. Not every team is able to sign Artests and Paytons on the cheap. James Posey was a bargain for Boston because they got a ring-chaser discount, not so much for non-discounted, MLE-paying New Orleans.

Most I'd give him is like...3yr/15mil tops.

I could understand overpaying him if he were truly an integral piece - hell, my team made Rashard Lewis one of the richest players in the league - but to put it simply, Gooden is a dumb player.

Not a terrible deal, but definitely not an expected one.

Walton-esque

I can kinda see why they wanted him, for offense. But as many have said, why not wait a bit or start with a lower bid. Seems like he could have easily been had in a few weeks for less money...

P.S.

Boozer and Lee are smiling ear to ear now...
