What if Shaq signs with the Celtics?

Post#1 » by TonyMontana » Thu Jul 1, 2010 3:44 pm

I think there is still a slight chance that Shaq will endup in LA this year and finish his career here in LA, but what if he signs with Boston.

Will the Lakers retire his number in LA and will he finally lose all his fans like myself here in LA?

Also will he sign with the Cs since Perk is out?

To retire the number of a Celtic would cause Chick Hearn to roll over in his grave and the statue of Magic to crack in half.

First off i really dont see the Lakers hanging Shaq's number up in the Staples center. Thats not taking anything away from him but unless he comes here and wins another 3 rings it aint gonna happen.

Second if the Celtics do sign him it will show how desperate they are causing them to grasp for empty broken straws.

Hmm!! Not while Buss and Magic are still breathing! But you never know the future... despite that everything is written in stone these days, dementia is still on the rise. I mean you see how, according to many, Kobe is all of a sudden nowhere close to Lebron's status and never ever did anything close. Yah we've all heard that nonsense. Anyway... what im saying is that Buss' grandkids and future Laker fans might not feel the way we feel about this stuff. If he wears the green, Chick will cry and roll over a million times but i think retiring his jersey could still happen... sadly.

If they do not retire his number in the Staples Center, it will be a shame. You cannot take down what the man did for this city and community. No matter how you feel about him. Gotta respect him.

I bet you Shaq will go to any place where he has a shot at winning another ring. Even Boston. He would even want to come back to LA if he could.

I just don't think there is any way that the Lakers even think about signing him for several reasons. One is the way he handled himself with total lack of class after we traded him. Two, and most importantly, he would have a negative effect on the chemistry of this team. Three, Kobe would never want him on this team.

Eck's right. I don't think he's wall worthy regardless after the Heat years.

I agree. I, as a lifelong fan of the Lakers, would not want to see Shaq's jersey up at Staples, as much as I appreciate the good years we had with him while he was here.

Yeah he kinda jumped the Shark when he acted like a straight fool when he left L.A. Maybe Pat Riley will feel sorry for him and retire his number in Miami.

What has Shaq done in the last 2-3yrs that anyone would care where he signed. Physcially he adds very little and mentally he causes problems in the locker room. Just look at the last 3 teams he has been on, none have anything good to say about him.

Shaq was trying to gravy train in Cleaveland... now possibility of going to Celtics? How many franchises does this guy want to hate him?

He deserves to be in the hall of fame, but his recent barnstorming from team to team really diminishes his career. That said, his number won't be retired in LA. He shows up the owner, is partially responsible for ruining a dynasty. (Kobe the other party, but Kobe comes to play, Shaq shows up later and later in the season) Shaq is better off retiring and perhaps coaching big men. Let him get his ring that way.

Shaq's jersey will be retired in LA whether that happens in 2yrs after his career is over or in 7 yrs after he gets into the Hall of Fame. If he goes to the Celtics it'll just happen in 7yrs instead of 2yrs. Wilt was a Laker only for 5 seasons while he spent nearly a decade somewhere else his jersey is up in the rafters. Shaq spent 8yrs in LA and probably 12 elsewhere Shaq was a Laker longer than Wilt was a Laker. And I can guarantee you the Magic, Heat, Suns, Cavs, Next team aren't gonna be retiring his jersey.
