Brewer+Al for Gay?

Maybe, although I wouldn't be surprised to see a 3rd team involved.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

I think Kahn shot himself in the foot here and Gay and his Agent have little reason to take MN's offer seriously, when it is contingent on moving Jefferson. Other teams with space don't have that contingency.

Darko and Pekovic should not have been top priority.

Pek had a time table, and if Darko was unsigned we had his massive cap-hold against us. Signing him was essential before anything else happens.

We have been talking with memphis in some form about Gay since the trade deadline. This is a process that is months in the making.

I just hope they exhaust any Iggy scenario before they move forward.

I gotta agree Rev. I'd rather have Iggy for basically the same money as Gay is going to get. Fits the "normal" SG spot better than Gay or Johnson, better defense, more playmaking, although he's not really a go-to scorer like Gay, and isn't quite the shooter.

How much was the cap hold on Darko?

Gay has way more iso scoring ability and potential than Iguodala, I'd rather max out Gay than take on Iguodala. If we trade Jefferson for Iguodala then we've moved a #2 scorer for a #3 scorer

Agreed. Gay's upside is way higher than Iggy's.

I guess I don't understand how the cap hold works. If the Wolves decided not to sign Darko, then $11 million would still count towards the cap, making it virtually impossible to sign anyone without going over? That doesn't sound right.

Add me to the Gay over Iggy bandwagon. Hell for the matter I'd drive the Corey Brewer, Wes Johnson, Martell Webster, Thaddeus Young, Anthony Morrow, Monta Ellis etc. bandwagons before the Igoudala. That guy is a loser. The only thing worse than not having a superstar is not having one in the form of a player who thinks he is one.

Cap holds are for the offseason. Since teams are allowed to go over the cap to sign their own players, the cap hold is in place so that teams can't use all their cap space on other FAs, then go and sign all their own players.

Make sense?

Well, Darko was unrestricted, it seems weird that it would count against us. The guy could sign a deal with anyone.

What would be the implication of renouncing his rights? Would we be unable to sign him?

In hindsight, with the Rudy Gay news, it wouldn't have helped, but I just don't put Darko as a top priority.
