Does this do anything for any of you:
Den receives:
Big Al
Pekovic
Webster
Min receives:
J.R. Smith
Nene
$3.7 mil trade exception
future 1st
I'm guessing most will not like this, but here is what I was thinking:
There is definitely some risk here, Smith is not the most mature player, BUT, he is very talented. It seems to me that for the most part, playmakers are born and not made (Ex: I don't see Corey Brewer ever becoming a go-to guy who can get his shot when needed, although he is one of my favorite players). Smith at the very least can get us points in bunches from the 2 spot, and if he ever matures he could be a semi-star, and would definitely be a good running mate for Rubio. Think of Stephen Jackson; 7 or 8 years ago he was just a punk jacking up threes next to Reggie Miller, but his game evolved - and now he's a really good, but kinda old, player. This is the kind of chance I think we need to take, we are never going to be able to sign Wade, and aren't likely to find a dynamite wing in the draft. If it doesn't work out, no biggie, his contract is over in 2 years.
On to Nene: We're taking on another big man, but we're giving up two, so I think the minutes would work out fine between Love, Darko and Nene. We get another defensive presence who can block shots and can run the floor a bit. We don't gain a lot of athleticism, but we don't lose any here either as Big Al and Pekovic aren't too nimble in the first place. Nene's deal is for an average of $4 mil less a year, and for a year less, so overall we would save a good deal of cash as a result of this deal over 3 or 4 years. We give them Webster (or Brewer) to save money because now we've got all the wings we need (Brewer, Smith, Johnson, Ellington).
The trade exception is something I think Kahn is looking for as part of a deal, and while this isn't a huge one, it's decent. The future 1st may not amount to too much, but if they end of having to trade Melo cause he won't sign an extension, and end up blowing the team up, it could prove to be a good deal.
Post-trade lineups:
Min:
Nene/Darko
Love/whoever
Johnson/Brewer
Smith/Ellington/Brewer
Flynn/Sessions(Rubio)
Den:
Jefferson/Birdman
Martin/Pekovic
Melo/Webster
Afflalo/Webster
Billups/Lawson
Does this seem decent and realistic, or not enough of a haul for Jefferson?
