It's official, hawks will be dumping tons of players for years to come just to pay Joe, who happens to trash the fans in the playoffs.

Can we protest?

The Trail Blazers were close to acquiring point guard Chris Paul from the Hornets last week, a source told ESPN.com's Chad Ford.

The proposed deal had Portland sending Andre Miller, Joel Przybilla, Nicolas Batum, Jerryd Bayless and the 22nd pick to New Orleans for Paul and Emeka Okafor.

Hornets general manager Jeff Bower pulled the plug on the deal claiming that his owner wasn't ready to deal Paul.

New Orleans made a trade with Oklahoma City last week that got them under the luxury tax threshold, so they no longer have the financial pressure of dealing Paul.

I'm protesting the Hawks next season and beyond if they do resign Joe to this massive contract, I used to be a fan of his until he started trashing us and gave up in the playoffs.

Isn't there a rule saying that if half the arena sign a petition asking to cancel a trade, they can ?
It's something Stern need to add, because it's the only solution to control these clowns making decisions like that.
They got to buy a brain.

And in the same time, we hear that MIL gets Gooden for 33M/5yrs, keep Salmons for 39M/5yrs, are on keeping Delfino, got Maggette,...

ASG, do you realize that MIL have Salmons for 1/3 of Joe
or Salmons/Gooden/Maggette for the same price ?

Unbelievable, simply unbelievable.

Maybe it was "If we offer you a sign-&-trade for a Max contract, do you accept it Joe ?" and Joe said "Yes".
Maybe that's more something like that. Please, make it happen.

How in the world can you offer 60M/4yrs last summer, see the same guy playing in playoffs at half of his regular season level, then offer him 120/6yrs ?
How is it possible ? It's not.

like mike Bibby said a few years ago "who is yahoo sports?" This dont bother me, sorry but I dont really respect their opinion. they are more concerned about causing drama and creating a stir than reporting anything intelligent and newsworthy. I dont even think the bloggers who write for yahoo would disagree with that.

I'm with you there. I still expect a S&T to happen, but nothing is signed yet.

1. I think they could be waiting for the GS trade to go through.

2. Until Joe signs...I'll continue believe that this is a ploy for the Knicks to give him more money. The Hawks are helping him in this process so they won't come off as cheap and so that they can possibly get something back in a S&T. The report that the Hawks have a "timetable" for him to accept is laughable.

The other option -- as reported Tuesday by SI.com -- was to offer James a five-year deal, with a starting base salary of $11.5 million, which would leave room for Johnson and Stoudemire to join James in New York at similar salaries. The Knicks essentially would be counting on James to help recruit them as teammates by convincing them to accept at least $5 million less per year than they could earn elsewhere on the promise of ultimately receiving more income from off-court deals that would be available to them in New York.

^^^^^Wouldn't it make sense for Joe to pressure the Knicks into giving him his max deal ASAP? I don't think he wants to wait and see what LeBron does before he gets his deal.

But all they said about it is the reality, that's all, and that's what is sad.
Even people answering that Lewis was worst are wrong, because it was with ORL, and ORL assumed that move by continuing to spend and improve the team, while we know that the ASG won't spend any Tax, and even use the MLE like last season.
This why this deal would be the most stupid deal ever.

If they are cheap, then they have to assume that, and instead to dump everybody for giving 120M to a guy not better than Salmons who gets 39M, let walk him away, even for nothing because at least, it won't kill the team.

Because he knows he's not the first option, and that's what I said on the other thread, in any team having Max cap room, Joe is not the first option.

This why ATL has leverage. He can't get a Max offer by any team with cap room, they will all sign other players first, then need a sign-&-trade for Joe. Especially if you reduce the list to the team he wants to play : ATL or NYK or CHI.

Yahoo is far more accurate than ESPN. They were the 1st to say that the Hawks had a 2 million dollar budget for their coaching search when people here were discussing names like JVG and Byron Scott.

man I wanted to keep Joe but not like this...the only hope (highly unlikely) is that ownership is willing to spend whatever period to resign Horford and make changes as necessary.
Commit to the process

It should never have to be said. We should hear from using the MLE, spend to improve the team, don''t let Childress walk for nothing,... and now, we are asking if they will keep Horford, because of this stupid contract.

Why would anyone want JJ for this amount of money? Say the Nets and or the Knicks strike out with the big FAs, do you really believe that they would be willing to take on this fat, insane contract? I dont see it.

Adrian Wojo Twitter says:
League exec. says ATL owners thought for offering Joe Johnson max deal is they won't still own Hawks at end of contract to have to pay it.

We are fooked if we keep him, we are fooked if we leave.
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

Luckily I am also a baseball and football fan... The Braves and Falcons look like they have bright futures... Now what am I going to watch to get me from football to baseball? I can't even watch hockey... I'm going to have to start watching soccer?!? Do we even have a soccer team?

But seriously, this is devastating news if its true and he accepts it...

Per YahooSports:
The Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks were pushing for meetings with Johnson on Thursday afternoon in Los Angeles where they could discuss possible sign-and-trade scenarios. The Chicago Bulls also have interest in Johnson.

S&T with Mavs or Rockets? Yes, please!
