Redskins to revamp coaching staff

Post#1 » by Wizards2Lottery » Wed Jan 23, 2008 10:48 pm

Jim Fossil - HC
Rex Ryan - DC
Jim Zorn - OC

The team that snags up Gregg Williams is very very lucky. Meanwhile, Dan Snyder continues to torture Redskins fans.

I do like the coordinators, but Fossil??

This is not 100% done yet, especially the RR part. It looks like it is going to happen very soon, but not a done deal

Gregg Williams is a really good Coordinator but he was pretty bad as the Head Coach of the Bills his first go around.

\Jim Fassell isn't as bad as you think. Could be a good hire.

Gregg Williams is still under contract but he wont stay if hes not named the head coach. Pride thing. He was supposed to be the successor to Joe Gibbs but he doesn't like Vinny Cerrato.

Vinny Cerrato and Dan Snyder are madly in love with each other so its GW who will most likely be shown the door.

Although they've been one and done, it is amazing the Redskins have made the playoffs in spite of Snyder.

This is such a giant cluster****
I used to think Danny Boy was finally seeing the light, but it turns out he's still the most tone-deaf owner this side of Al Davis.

I'm not necessarily of the opinion that Greg Williams should have been the HC, but why on earth do you interview a guy who has been on your staff for years 4 times, and still not decide?!? Are they really that out of it in the front office?

Jim Fassell is a great move, if it does in fact come to fruition. Best HC candidate on the market IMO. They're darn lucky he would agree to step into such a coaching mess.

Edit--one of the things floating around the rumor mill is that they're waiting for Steve Spagnuolo once he's done with the Super Bowl. Which would also mean that no way Ryan comes on board. Who really knows at this point.

'Skins hire Zorn as their offensive coordinator which means (IMO) that the coach will be a defensive guy. I can't imagine hiring assistants before hiring the head coach, which means either Gregg is getting the job or the Giants DC is getting it.

I agree this is a mess. If Snyder never mentioned continuity or stability in that presser, people wouldn't be up in arms about everything.

do it already. The players want him and the city wants him. We're guaranteed a top 10 defense with Gregg Williams. If Zorn works out, we could be a lethal team in the NFC.

I can't believe instead of building on an injury plagued yet 9-7 playoff season, Snyder wants to blow it up :nonono:

Greg Williams will be back with the Titans after Washington brings in Schwartz and, then the Titans can have the same coaching staff as they did in the early 2000's.

I can't imagine that any head coach other than a first timer or 2nd tier retread would ever want to coach for Snyder. I just don't get the whole hiring coordinators before the head coach thing. I just don't think that if I had other options (like a Cowher, etc) that I would ever want to put myself in a situation to work for Snyder.

I just finished reading "Next Man Up" by John Feinstein. A lot of the coaches (especially Mike Nolan) had nothing good to say about time they spent working for Snyder, so I guess thats part of what gives me this opinion about the coaches not wanting to work for him. Great book, if anyone loves the NFL.

A good book indeed, if you can tolerate Feinstein's incessant name dropping and know-it-all tone.

I heard this on Sirius NFL radio, with Bob Papa talking to Shannon Sharpe. Bob asked Shannon why anyone would take the Skins job after all that has gone down. Shannon's response, "Because some people are dumb as bricks and need the money". That sums it up pretty well. I do think they're going after Spagnuolo and just killing time right now. The Steve Mariucci rumors were just an offhand comedic aside from Bram Weinstein on some ESPN radio show and nothing more.

Not sure why you're accusing Bram. It was verified by Charlie Casserly today that Mooch will be interviewing for us.

At this point I really don't care. As long as its not Fassel, I'm fine. I never liked Al Saunders and am happy with the Zorn hire. The defense, we'll see. If its not a top 10 unit this year, Snyder and Cerrato walk butt naked from Washington to Milwaukee in mid january.

Sirius reported that Greg Williams spent the day here in Jacksonville interviewing for the new vacant defensive coordinator spot.
