Jefferson will be HUGELY valuable

Post#1 » by Kurosawa » Fri Jul 2, 2010 11:16 am

If Kahn remains patient for a week or two and lets the free agency feeding frenzy proceed as it has, he should be able to reap a huge return for Al.

Why? When Kahn couldn't unload him for Z-Bo 10 days ago?

This explains it all:

Too much cap space, too little talent.

I agree.

If Boozer lands in Orlando and Amare goes back to Phx (reported as highly likely) things will get really interesting for the teams that don't get Lebron and Bosh (who people think will go to the same team). One of Chi / NY / NJ will be left needing big time help.

My hope is that Chicago gets Bosh and Lebron and we can deal with NJ to get Favors. Send them Al Jefferson and Brewer (or Sessions) Favors/Humphries and a TPE.

Milicic - Favors - Hollins
Love - Favors
Johnson - Bjelica
Webster - Ellington
Flynn - Sessions

Perhaps we can deal Pekovic for a 3/4 type if this were the case since he would see limited minutes.

A number of GM's and franchises, most notably the Knicks, have bet the farm on bringing in big talent through free agency. They spent assets to clear cap space on the chance that they would be able to bring in LeBron + Bosh. As more and more free agents stay home, stars that could be traded become more and more valuable. Jefferson's trade value will peak in a couple weeks, then it would grow again next year, perhaps peaking again at the trade deadline.

How about this...

Paperclips
In: Nick Young, Ramon Sessions
Out: Eric Gordon

Timberwolves
In: Eric Gordon
Out: Al Jeff/Sessions

Wizards
In: Al Jeff
Out: Nick Young

All teams have some cap space I believe this will allow salary differences to work themselves out. Maybe some filler would need to be added to make it work? Nick Young would help fill Gordon's spot at SG and Ramon Sessions gives them a very solid back up for Baron Davis while Bledsoe develops. The Wolves could really use a guy with the skillset of Eric Gordon and the Wizards have been talking about low post presence. Al Jeff would be a great addition to their lineup...
We have to do the impossible, but it is possible.

Really?? I kinda figured they (Wiz) made out in the deal... Al Jeff for Nick Young...

Yeah... The deal may not be that great for the Clips... Maybe we toss in Brew to Clips and they give us back our future 1st?

Detroit would love to trade you Richard Hamilton plus a protected first rounder for Big Al.

Issue addressed, signed, sealed and delivered.

Hamilton is still a quality scorer, but he doesn't fit what Detroit is doing and they have a log jam at SG.

Git-r-dun....

The longer we wait to move him the more valueable he might become this summer.

Isn't it kind of stupid from the Nets that their represantatives approached 8 minutes later than LeBron???
LeBron hates waiting. :P

We want as many FAs to re-up with their current teams or do S/Ts to teams that are currently over the cap (i.e. Bosh to Houston) as possible. This leaves all the teams that have cap room waiting wtih nothing to spend their money on and they'll turn to us.

So Lebron to Clev, Johnson to Atl, Amare back to the Suns and Bosh to Houston, f those things happen, at least one or two of Miami, Chicago, NJ and NY will get desperate.

This is exactly what I'm hoping will happen. Then we can move Pekovic and our extra cap space to Philly for Iguodala.

Roll with this:

Darko/Favors
Favors/Love
Iggy/Johnson
Johnson/Webster
Flynn/Sessions

I don't know, according to at least one Detroit poster, Hamilton still has All-Star years left, no doubt about it.

Intersting article and it does appear crazy the amount being paid out.

Jefferson may be very valuable unless we have to take back inflated contract in exchange. Kahn may be wise to not try to sign any high flying free agent this summer. After these prices Jefferson may look like a bargain to many.

With the possible lockout it will be interesting to se if new contracts are guarenteed to be paid if lockout.

I agree with the premise, but these are ugly trade situations.

I think Chicago should be seen as a target, and likely NY. Unfortunately, do either of them have much of what we want? Perhaps we could utilize the cap space in a 3-way situation. Would Philly rather have Al or would they rather have space+ Brewer? (A better fit next to Turner)

why not something along the lines of

Chicago sends Gibson+ TPE receives Al Jefferson
Philly sends Iggy receives TPE, Gibson, Brewer
MN sends Brewer, Jefferson receives Iggy.

idk, just an interesting option.
