Seriously guys - is Amar'e better than David Lee?
They both don't play D, and Lee has better rebounding #s.

7/5/2010 -

A source reports that Amar'e Stoudemire is on the verge of joining the Knicks as a free agent.

The forward met with the Knicks on Monday and the two sides are on the brink of finalizing a contract worth nearly $100 million over five years. The contract language has already been hammered out.

Stoudemire will meet with owner James Dolan at 4 p.m.

I feel like Amar'e is the 2nd coming of Antonio Mcdyess. And it's funny because the knicks could have drafted Amar'e, but instead picked Nene and traded him for Mcdyess. Circle of Knicks life.

Absolutely. Just as prolific as a scorer and somewhat more defensively sound (though not much). Is he worth max dollars? Probably not. However, if Lee is demanding max money - I'd rather have Amar'e.

Did you watch ANY Knicks vs. Suns games last year?! i don't have the numbers infront of me, but Amare abused David Lee a few times they went against each other.

The concerns are founded but the difference is that Amar'e has already played a full, healthy post-surgery season. McDyess had yet to show he could get back on the court when we brought him in.

It is, however, and interesting Knicks version of the ouroboros.

Amare is probably the best finisher in the league.

Amare is better but Lee is still a great player that will get close to the max, if not the max, from some team.

It's a question of value and mileage. If the world came to an end in 2011 and both players made the exact same money, then absolutely Amar'e Stoudemire.

But since the world will likely keep on going into at least David Lee's late 30's, and since one player is very likely going to make 25% less than the other -- it's comes down to a question of relativity. Five years from now, I'd probably take David Lee for $17 million over Amar'e at $24 million. Right now?

Recognizing the risk, I'll take Amar'e.

D'Antoni doesn't run a traditional "inside-out" game where you dump it into the post, wait for the double-team, and pass out of that. It's all based on cutting and screens. Lee is much better at the pick and roll than Amare is. Plus, Lee is a much better passer; is healthier; is a better rebounder; and is much less apt to complain if he doesn't get his shots.
