Lux tax

Post#1 » by beyonder » Fri Jul 2, 2010 7:52 pm

Let's be honest. There is no way the Jazz will resign Boozer. They will be 10M tax payers with a payroll of ~80M. Some say that they could dump Kirilenko but who would take his contract (I can't see any team under the cap making such move. Only the team under the cap could take unequal salary: 17M for max 7M).
Another idea is sign-and-trade. This is more realistic (Boozer can sign far better contract with the Jazz so he should be interested). What the Jazz can get? Not much:
1. Huge TPE + draft picks (of future playoff team)
2. Some player with the salary up to 5M + draft picks (the only team willing to trade its young player is Miami (Michael Beasley), Chicago won't trade Rose/Noah, Nets won't trade Lopez, Knicks go for Amare, Clippers have Griffin)
3. Some other player (max 5M salary) from the team over the cap - 3-team deal needed. Highly unlikely

It seem that the Jazz 2010/11 roster will be (2009/2010 roster -Boozer +Hayward) or (2009/10 roster -Boozer -Korver +Beasley +Hayward)

Jazz dont have to pay the luxury tax till the end of next season so they would have plenty of time to find a deal/s that would work them to under the luxury threshold.

It's hard to deal when everybody knows that you're facing back-against-the-wall situation.
This would mean that you have to give value for nothing (for example Maynor move) and consequently end up with 2 max (or close to max) All-stars and 10 minimum salary mid-season signings.

Forgot about Favors in New Jersey (they treat him as an asset not core player)
Boozer for Favors would be the best way this free agency can end up for the Jazz.
The Jazz roster for the 2010/11 season: 2009/10 roster -Korver -Boozer +Hayward +Favors

That actually doesn't sound half bad. If we could pull it off I'd be dumbfounded.

On another note, I'm really exited to see all the rookie 4's duke it out this year. Griffin, Favors, Monroe, and Davis. Should be good.

You guys are crazy. Boozer will be lucky to get a 5 year max deal, much less having a team give him the 6 year max + losing assets.

Let it play out before you put that roster in concrete....there will be a bunch of movement league-wide once the big 5 are officially off the board and teams sort out what they are going to field for next year.

Getting Favors when NJ can just sign Boozer straight up is bordering on Knick fan like delusion.

The only way I can see the Jazz getting Favors is if Boozer will not play in NJ without the 6th year. If he wants to be that picky then maybe, but don't hold your breath.

Can't see that happening even if Boozer agreed to the midlevel salary for 3 years in a s&t because he hates Favors being on his team.

Who hates Favors being on their team? I am confused.
