Ronnie Brewer is running around without a contract right now. Would anyone suggest that Mathews is as good a player as a Brewer? Of course not. The only thing that would make Mathews a "better" player is if he was playing for half the money that Brewer gets. I don't think Brewer will get anywhere near the mid level. Why would you give it to Mathews? Just plain silly to think it.

IMO Matthews is a better player for our system than Brewer. Brewer's inability to hit open shots was bad for our offense against the top teams.

You're not crazy at all. Wesley shows no fear. He's a tough hard nosed defender that's not afraid to get in your face and that's something we lack on this team. Offensively he also has no fear. I loved seeing him drive through the lane against Kobe Bryant and even Carmelo Anthony. It was fun to watch him have that much confidence just as an undrafted rookie. He's worth the full MLE. He started many games for us and did not disappoint.

Considering how the market has played out Wes will likely get the full MLE. I want to keep Wes, but he is not a full MLE player. I can live with him at 4 mil a season, even 5, but 30-35 mil over 5 years...yikes.

Mathews is a more complete player than Brewer. It's sad but true. Obviously Mathews isn't nowhere near as athletic as Brewer, but Mathews can hit a consistent shot, is a 3-point threat, and Mathews gave us everything defensively that Brewer did. In fact, Brewer tried too hard defensively sometimes and made gambles going for steals that burned him in the end. There is a reason why a couple of years ago in the playoffs they stopped guarding Brewer and focused on double teaming other players. They knew he couldn't consistently hit a shot. I take Mathews over Brewer.

Agreed he's not a full MLE player, but I'd pay it to keep him. I'm a firm believer in the fact that in your 5 year time-table he'll be warranting that MLE and perhaps even more.

I suggest that he's better.

:eek2: Shocked that you don't think it's at the very least in question. I'd take Matthews any day of the week over Brewer.
