i wouldn't mind barnes, but if the lakers were going to throw money his way i'd much prefer miller. guess its all moot with blake here.

ohhh yeahhh, question:

Say a team like the Lakers who have no money (but part of the MLE) want to sign somebody, for what they have left of the MLE, could the Lakers kind of cheat and say in the contract, add an extra few million in 'incentives' or 'bonuses' such as if the player starts in 1 game in the season or something stupid like that,

ex. Mike Miller
- he obviously wants more than the $2 million the Lakers have left of the MLE, so if the contract is like this

year 1: 2 million (+3 million if Miller starts in at least 5 games for the Lakers this season)
year 2: up the amount by a few million, or the incentive thing again, w/e.

I would rather sign bell, and would Barnes take just the 2 mill of the MLE that we have left. I know that i have been saying this a lot now, but our need for a slasher isn't as big as it seems as long as Ebanks continues to improve his game throughout the season and phil gives the kid his minutes

no, lakers can't use bonuses that would end up with them paying more than they originally could offer.

also, all bonuses have to fall under the "unlikely to achieve" catergory, which starting one game certainly doesn't fall under.

I think this is Matt Barnes final chance to cash in as a free agent, he is gutty and plays very physical defense, can hit the open 3. Not sure why teams never signed him to a long deal. He only got $3.5 Mil with the Warriors, then the Suns signed him to a vet minimum of $1.2 Mil, I believe Orlando signed him to like the LLE or portion of the MLE last year in which he opted out. Doubtful Barnes want to come to LA for less than $2 million. He's looking at the MLE or close to it.

I was surprised Barnes didn't land a multi year deal that payed around 3 mil a season. He is a solid role player and championship caliber teams look for players like that.
