Can we win Championships with Beno?

Post#1 » by sactown15 » Sun Jul 4, 2010 6:44 am

Hey guys I have been looking at our team and in the long run can we really be contenders and win championships with Beno at the helm?

Helm means he's in charge, he's not, yes, we can win a championship with Beno, he's better than Fisher, and whoever was manning the PG in Miami, it's a question of cast.
Beno is a good player, if he's not asked to lead, and is not asked to create much.

Ya we can with him as long as he is coming off the bench. Every1 remembers 2 seasons ago when he was starting and we had the worst record in the NBA. We need a much better and more athletic combo guard to pair with Evans long term

beno is fine as the starting PG, he's a role player and he's a very competent one at that. I think he is acceptable for championsip. Not every player is a superstar.

Beno is absolutely fine at starting PG. As others said, he wouldn't really be leading the team. He'd be part of the supporting cast, and a damn fine part of the supporting cast at that.

We will be championship contenders when our starting 5 is set and both Landry and Beno are our 6th and 7th men.

Let's worry about being serious playoff contenders before we start talking about whether one guy is a championship piece.

LOL ! This topic is to funny !

Listen we haven't even made the playoffs in a number of years & we are talking can we win a championship with BENO ? Seriously ? LMAO !

A. You have to at least make the playoffs before winning a championship !
B. The likelyhood of us winning a championship next season or the season after is very slim !
C. By the time 2 years from now is up reffering to setion B Beno wouls either have been traded or in his final season of his contract so it is very slim chance if any that we will ever win a championship with BENO ! When his 4 more years are up in his current contract Beno likely wont be a KING past that !

In conclusion no championship likely with BENO ! I guess we all can dream of winning 1 in the next 2-3 years though ........................

Most championship contenders do have a top PG starting for them. Except for Cleveland and L.A, who have the two best players in the game right now. San Antonio, Boston, Phoenix, Denver, Detroit (ca 2004), amid other teams. Yes we could win a championship with Beno on the Kings but it would have to be with him as a backup or Tyreke becoming the next D-Wade. I like Beno, and he was one of our most consistent players last year, but the answer to your question is no, the Kings will not win a championship with Beno starting for the Kings. We will need to add a point guard within the next two years and then we can start talking about the c-word.

Man, when the KINGS becomes a contender, BENO is already be retired.
That's sad, but true.
IMO, he's a good player (kind of unlucky Derek Fisher) and would be a contender in a nice team.

Nah, Beno will still be in his prime. 29-30. 8-)

Uhh....the idea is that Tyreke will be an elite wing player. I think that's what we all basically assume. He'll need a guy next to him that is exactly like Beno. Fortunately, Beno is exactly like Beno, so we're in decent shape.

And 07 Rondo was nowhere near an elite PG. He was really below average at the time.

Here's the thing and don't get me wrong.

Beno has SOME of the elements of the kind of guy that plays next to Reke on a championship contender that are all things that Derek Fisher has: Ability to iso-score either with jump shot or drive; good handles and reasonable playmaking ability when needed; good size.

The major difference - and the difference maker that will preclude Beno from EVER being a starter on a contending team - is the physicality and ability to play way above average defense. Don't get me wrong because of all the Lakers that I despise, Fisher is the winner hands down. Not only that, I have NO RESPECT for the guy whatsoever for the way he used his kid's illness as an excuse to weasel out of his contract with the Jazz for shots to win more rings in LA.

But the fact is, despite his famous flopping and other antics, the guys always seems to be there to make the extra effort or hustle play needed to help the team win. When it really comes down to it, looking back historically years from now, true Basketball officianados will realize that Phil Jackson owes his championship legacy - not to the Kobe's and Shaq's and MJ's and Pippen's, but to the guys like Fisher who were willing to do all the little dirty work items that really deliver the Larry O'Brien trophy.

I mean how many times for different teams has Robert Horry stuck the knife in to seal the final score?

not as starter, he is too much of liability on defense.

Mike Bibby had his way with Fisher back in 02. Fisher isn't asked to do as much because Kobe does everything. Fisher was an afterthought in Golden State and Utah. Don't act like he elevated those teams to any higher level than they were already at.

I'll buy the argument that Fisher does the little things, but I'll also say we ask more of Beno then the Lakers do Fisher. Oh BTW the Lakers just brought in Steve Blake and are asking Fish to take less money. 4 years $16M is a pretty big payday for Blake.

Udrih has been on a championship team as a backup and pretty much was one foot out of the league before Petrie came calling. I think he's learned from it. Last year when Reke came in and was handed the PG job Udrih just waited for his time and played extremely well. He handled it better than anyone expected.

I think Udrih is just an overall better player than Fisher. Fisher just has done well being 5th fiddle on a team. If Udrih were a Laker that team is way more dynamic than it already is.

The difference is Bibby had to carry the team between Webber/Peja. Fisher is only a clutch role player and Udrih is the same way. Kobe has maybe 1 ring if he doesn't have Fisher and Horry both only role players. You need guys to carry your team for 4 quarters and you need guys who can hit big shots or get a stop late. Udrih is a very clutch role player who won't have to carry the team just hit big shots late. He is not Bibby, but he doesn't need to be with Evans/Thompson/Cousins/Landry/ Dalembert. There is enough offense to carry this team so that Beno can do his strength as a role playing. But you cannot win titles without guys like him.
