Ian Mahinmi

Can't find the link but he says he'd like to stay if the Spurs give him a project? I have no idea what that means. What project? He did say that if he leaves, he's looking for the team that can give him the most minutes.

I say we should let him go unless he wants the minimum. He's been here too long and not do anything to really warrant anything more.

He's French. He probably means a role on the team.

The dude just likes his arts and crafts.

I really don't see any reason to keep him around, unless we give him a non guarnteed contract and see how he does in summer league.

What's his game like? His stats in limited minutes seem to be solid.

To me, he sucks.

The good thing about him is that he's young, big, athletic, and looks to be a decent shotblocker.

Bad thing? injury prone, foul prone, inconsistent, lacks experience, rebounding is average, no offensive game whatsoever.

He's shown flashes of his potential and he dominated D-league, but hasn't shown enough of anything in the NBA level to really warrant anything more than the minimum. But I suppose some team with money and in an uptempo situation might be willing to cough up some dollars at him given his potential and his athleticism. This summer's FA looks like it'll have a lot of overpaid guys. Center is a weak spot of many teams and the list of guys available in FA is really dry.

The Mavericks are close to signing former San Antonio Spurs center Ian Mahinmi, NBA sources said Sunday. Mahinmi (6-11) played 26 games for the Spurs last season and is an unrestricted free agent. He averaged 3.9 points and 2.0 rebounds in six minutes per game last season. Several NBA sources said the 25-year-old Frenchman is ready to make a significant improvement moving forward. The Mavericks signed center Brendan Haywood to a six-year deal last week, but Erick Dampier is on a non-guaranteed contract. Dampier is likely to be either traded or waived before the Mavericks would have to pay the $13 million for the final year of his deal

I'm surprised. Dallas. Don't know how that's a good fit for Ian at all. I thought Miami and New York are better fits for him. Tall, athletic, young, and cheap.

It sounds like Dampier is on his way out and that they want Ian to be Haywood's backup. I hope Ian does well, he's got some talent he just need some minutes.

Mahinmi was a bum with us but doesnt mean he can't develop into a nice rotational player. Good Luck.
