Why does everyone think Hakeem Warrick is a good defender?
I don't know how many comments I seen on several message board about how replacing Amare with Hakeem Warrick makes the Suns way better defensively. Why do people who have obviously never watched Hakeem Warrick play basketball make such stupid, ignorant comments. The MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES of all teams traded Warrick because of how bad he was defensively. He weighs 210 pounds and tries to play power forward, and he gets abused by anyone with any sort of size. He has never had a coach who considered him a good defender, nor has any credible analyst called him a good defender. As a matter of fact, the system he played in in college is known for producing guys who can't play D in the NBA.
Can someone who thinks Warrick will be a huge upgrade (or an upgrade at all) to Amare defensively please give me a logical reason why you think so?

People assume that quick guy with long arms and leaping ability has to be a good defender.
Actually he might be the worst defender and rebounder at power forward in the league.

He's if anything a downgrade to Amare defensively. I woulda been fine with it if Sarver knew something about Amare's knees that made a 5 year deal risky, but at that point it was time to rebuild and save the cap room they'd have for a better use. Instead he's using it to overpay two small forwards (Frye might be 6'11" but he's a small forward as far as I'm concerned) because he's truly stupid enough to think overpaying Hakeem Warrick and Frye to replace Amare will keep the team competitive and in the playoffs.

Re: Why does everyone think Hakeem Warrick is a good defender?
No doubt he is a horrible defender, but I still think he will probably fill about 80% of what Amare brought to the Suns defensively and about 50% of what Amare brought offensively.
Amare wasn't exactly a top defensive stopper either. Pretty much a wash replacing one horrible defensive big with another.

If you say it's a wash that's fine I don't take issue with that. The problem I have is with the people who think this makes the Suns a good defensive team.
Saying Warrick will replace 50% of what Amare brought offensively is whole different kind of stupid I don't feel like getting into.

Don't worry, Gentry will figure out within a couple months that you can't have Warrick on the floor and have a hope of winning, just like coaches in the last 3 places he's played figured out that his defensive shortcomings far outweighed his positives on the other end (and there's a limited number of those..he doesn't pass, doesn't have a post game, or a reliable turn around, doesn't grab offensive rebounds, doesn't shoot the three, and turns it over a lot.)
He'll be playing behind one of our other big men by mid-December because you just can't keep him on the court.

Yeah, and then what? The Suns have a long term contract on the books for a player who is absolutely useless and can't crack the rotation. Meanwhile, the Suns will still suck defensively. Last I checked they don't have a good defender ready to take over in the event Warrick sucks.

Re: Why does everyone think Hakeem Warrick is a good defender?
You guys are dumb. just because Warrick is playing the PF doesn't mean he has to guard the PF from the opposing team. That is memphis, Chi and Milwaukee's fault if they tried that. That is why I would like to see Clark and Warrick on the floor together.
Clark can play the 3 on offense and cover the 4 or 3 on defense, depending on the type of offensive of player the PF is.
Nash 6'3/Fisher 6'2
Duds 6'7/ Kobe 6'6
Clark 6'10/ Odom 6'11
Warrick 6'9/Artest 6'7
Frye 6'11/Gasol 7'0
would potentially (Clark) be an effective lineup to finish games with. Clark Guards the PF and Warrick guards the SF. Nash, ,Duds and Frye are our three spacers, Warrick runs the PnR with Nash, and Clark can slash to the hoop. That defense is better than last year's with Amare.
If Clark does what he is capable of doing, we are back to the finals..Book it. Frye is no stopper, but he is effective enough, and he will take is man out of the paint, clearing room for Warrick and Clark.
Now of course if Clark isn't ready, then we will struggle.

Probably because, although they haven't seen Warrick play defense, they have seen Amare play, and they assume it can't possibly get any worse.

For 4M a year with a 4th year team option, Warrick was an alright signing. He's not going to replace Amare but he's basically a serviceable big that can fill in until they draft a PF of the future through the draft.

You can't be seriously counting on CLark to start at SF? Did you actually watch him play last year? He was awful. Don't count your chickens before they hatch.
Ok, so Warrick guards the oppositions SF. WHo guards their PF? Hill? Dudley? Frye or Lopez? If you answered the latter, then you have to have your SF guarding their center. Can you say mis-match?

Are you also the guy who posts under "gumpspeed" at AZCentral? You both have the same incoherent posting style and come up with ideas stupid enough to make people think you have severe temporal lobe damage.

Read the Fckng post dude! When did I say start? I said POTENTIAL!!! I'm so sick of posters running off at the mouth with the same negative crap...."blah blah blah he sucks" "he is a bust." That crap is old!! You have never seen him look good at any time last year? You haven't seen any potential in him at all? Then you don't need to post, because you don't know crap and cannot help out with discussions on this board. How am I counting chickens? Go talk to David Thrope and Eddie Johnson, I am wasting my time telling you what Clark COULD become.

Yea..didn't you read where I said Frye would shut him down?? I guess you didn't watch our games against LAL during the WCF and saw who finished the games.
Nash
Dudley or JRich
Hill or Dudley
Amare
and
FRYE!!
and he wasn't in their to shut him down. No one can "match up" with Gasol pretty much on any team, but damnit, it sure looked good in game 4 when Frye found his stroke shooting wide open J's because Gasol wouldn't come out to guard him.

What's up with all these n00bs starting 80 new threads for players there is already threads about? This isn't the ESPN boards. If you want to talk about Warrick, why not join the thread that is already 17 pages long, instead of starting a new thread every time a measly thought pops into your brain?

You're a special kind of stupid if you think Frye did the Suns any favors against LA.

How good did it look in any other game during the series when Frye's jump shot couldn't hit the broad side of a barn?
