Lakers have interest in Roger Mason Jr.

Mason says he hasn't ruled out a return to the Spurs “under the right circumstances,” but the Spurs appear to have already ruled him out.

Acknowledging his time in San Antonio is likely over, Mason has begun to focus on the new opportunities before him. He has generated what he deems “very serious” interest from eight to 10 teams, among them Chicago, Miami, New York, the L.A. Clippers and the L.A. Lakers.

I can see Roger Mason being a good fit here in LA. If he were willing to come play in LA for a remainder of the MLE then I don't see why the Lakers wouldn't want to bring him in. I have a feeling that by the end of this offseason the Lakers will sign a good backup wing player along the lines of Raja Bell, Roger Mason Jr, Matt Barnes, and possibly even T Mac. I'm sure there are more quality options that I'm not thinking of right now but if if we can't land anyone new then I'm sure Shannon Brown will be back.

I forgot all about him too...lol I like him as a player tho. If he's willing to take the rest of the MLE I say go for it. Either him or Barnes would do.

If we are going up against 10 other teams to sign Mason. Well we are out of the bidding. I see him getting more years and money from a few other teams. We have about 1.8 mil left. He could get 4 million a year from the Clippers. Long shot at best. Rather look for another big.

I think Sasha is a much better player. Spurs like us have a tendency to make limited players look much better (see Rasho, Oberto, Bowen etc). It also makes no sense for them to retain him with Hill coming on.

I'd rather get Bell than Mason.

Interest from 8-10 teams. Someone will overpay for him.
Thank you, Phil.

I think it's written in the CBA that players who are trying to negogiate in the media must say "The Lakers want me"

dont know this particular situation, but in past cases, players have used the "LAKER" name as a negotiating ploy. who knows in this case, but its been done before.

Mitch needs to start charging some sort of street tax for every time a free agent uses the Lakers as leverage to get the money they are looking for.

For the minutes they'd play, I'd rather have Sasha, But Bell would be my first choice of this guy, he's average at best.

Those other teams have more money to offer Mason Jr than we could with the rest of the MLE. Next moves we need to do is resign Fish and Mbenga. Than maybe we can get someone other teams are ignoring or not giving much with the rest of the MLE, but probably will be a guy with little impact. No one is going to take Sasha on a trade at least for anyone PJ wants or would be an upgrade. Best to wait before trade deadline for a team looking to move a contract to open cap space and already know their season is over and looking to rebuild. No one will take Luke either with his back issues and surgery ahead, plus is over payed at this point. Blake will be our biggest addition this offseason... In my opinion not too bad for us. Bell wants Miami as long as they get some top FAs or at least stay in the East to be close to his family. Doubt we sign him, he can make better elsewhere than what we can offer and find a team with a chance to win it all.
