Doug Smith: Raptors close to signing FA with MLE

Post#1 » by Supercollider » Mon Jul 5, 2010 9:12 am

Doug Smith wrote:According to league sources, the Raptors are “close” to reaching an agreement in principle with a free agent to take up some, if not all, of the team’s so-called mid-level salary cap exception. No names became immediately apparent, however, and the Raptors staff has maintained a cone of silence over all free-agent movement since the negotiating period began Canada Day.

Wait! Is Doug's proof that we're signing someone the "code of silence", or was he told they're signing someone but doesn't know who because of the "code of silence"?

Plus, does "code of silence" simply mean he doesn't have any damn contacts?

Doug's contacts include Norma Wick, The 4 Korner DJ's, and Joey from Burkies Dog House....

If for some miracle it is true I have a feeling it's another Power Forward....

If we play a PF at Center why not try a PF at PG???

Norma freaking Wick. That brings me back to Raptors TV's heyday. (Did they actually have a heyday?)

I googled her to see what she's up to these days, and I got a link to a Norma Jean Wick on Earth: Final Conflict. Unfortunately, there are no pictures available anywhere of her in that show or her at all, so I suspect it's someone else with the same name.

If she is in that show, there might not be any pictures simply because she'd be in alien make-up. Still sounds far-fetched.

Ya Norma Wick use to be an actress... She's had small parts and usually plays a reporter in
most of her roles.

The last time I heard about her she was a teacher in a Toronto Sports broadcasting school
that includes Jim Van Horn from Sportsnet/TSN fame and this other guy from the Score
who opened up the school like a year or 2 ago.

BC really surprised/pleased everyone with his last MLE signing, hopefully he strikes again this offseason.

Wouldn't mind that either (although I'm sure he's signed to another year with his team overseas). On a physical and rugged Denver team, I thought he was their most aggressive player. No racism intend, he reminds me of those european war veterans that always carry a machete with them wearing big coats and this hat:

If its Kleiza the Nuggets can match it. They probably will if its only the MLE.

Kyle Korver makes sense. We need 3pt shooting (assume he is healthy).
Ronnie Brewer is also a decent pickup.

I think it may be Ryan Gomes. It's been mentioned a few times that BC has interest in him.

Anthony Morrow would be a great under the radar signing... his shooting would really
help in the back court to off set DeRozan and Weems. I heard the Lakers were going
after him hard though.
