A "Bly" from the past!!

Post#1 » by Bartender » Fri Jul 2, 2010 5:28 pm

Detroit is welcoming back Dre Bly. He signed for a 2 year deal. A lot of 49er fans that I've talked to on another forum said he was real solid for them last season but had that stupid interception fumble against the Falcons.

I like it. I wanted Pacman for his veteran presence. I'll definitely take Dre back. He was a pro-bowler for Detroit. I don't expect that out of him, but he's still a solid piece to our puzzle.

One of my favorite players back in DET! He was very good until Marinelli made him play Cover 2, which takes away from everything that Dre does well. He's lost a half-step and still gambles a lot, but he's still better in man coverage than anyone else on the team and he'll create some turnovers. I cringe at the thought of him trying to tackle Forte or Peterson though.

It's a shrewd gamble. If Bly can be a contributor and we get off to a nice early start, then this is one nice opportunity for us to have an experienced playmaker that might be able to snag a few picks, and with his reputation and knowledge that gamble becomes a credible one. I like the move a lot. If we suck, it's not going to matter anyhow, but if we don't, then there's a good chance for a bonus parlay.

I'm liking your optimism on your latest thoughts of Mayhew's moves.

Optimism or no optimism, we're just going to have answers and answers soon with 3 of our first 4 games being division foes. And well hopefully having a guy like Bly will help us have a slightly better chance in that very early critical period. That's why the Haynesworth trade always seemed interesting to me. While he might have his own issues that are negative ones, you'd think he'd be just about the best guy you could get to give you a good jump towards a head start, but that all depends on just how cheap we could have got him and I have no way of knowing what Corey Williams is looking like.

Mike Williams has a chance at making the NFL, the Lions signed Dre Bly. All we need now is Joey Harrington signing with the Raiders or something.

Or if somebody signs Andre Ware so he can finally have a chance to play after all these years. :)

You wanted Pacman for his veteran presence? I would even agree with you if you said because he's good. But because for his veteran presence? Maybe I'm understanding veteran presence differently than you intend, but usually veteran means experience and professionalism.

Anyone see the clip of Bly being stripped of the football after an interception while he was showboating? Happened while he was with the 49ers I believe, so fairly recently. Funny stuff.....

I'm not sure it would have worked in DET, but Pacman looked real good in the HOF game and has been impressing a lot of skeptics with his work ethic and professionalism in CIN. I'll still take Dre Bly happily.

Pacman has turned over a new leaf. He's older, married now and has kids. He knows he's on a short leash and just wants to prove himself. He would have been good here. :( He looked good and crisp in the HOF game. Really looked like he hadn't missed anytime. I'm sure there will be some rust. But he looks inpressive so far.

I'm still hoping Bly will play a nice role off the bench for us. Houston and Wade have emerged as the starters. Spievey could learn alot with Bly.
