Swap with a division rival - ORL blockbuster

Post#1 » by azuresou1 » Tue Jul 6, 2010 1:42 pm

Atlanta sends:
Joe Johnson
Marvin Williams
Zaza Pachulia

Orlando sends:
Vince Carter
Rashard Lewis
Marcin Gortat

Atlanta gets possibly the most versatile frontcourt in the league, allowing us to go big (Smoove/Horford/Gortat), athletic (Shard/Smoove/Horford), small (Evans, Shard, Horford), or any other combination. We also downgrade at SG but pick up VC's expiring. With $25 million in expirings, we could possibly land some pieces for a championship run in 2-3 years.

Jeff Teague/Bibby
Vince Carter/Jamal Crawford/Jordan
Shard/Evans/Josh Smith
Josh Smith/Horford/Shard
Horford/Gortat

Orlando gets pieces that make it more traditional but well geared for a championship run now.

Jameer Nelson
Joe Johnson/JJ Reddick
Marvin Williams/Pietrus
Bass/Anderson
Dwight/Zaza

Interesting Trade. greatly increases the Orlando SG position, but i dont think Orlando wants to touch that contract (at least Lewis' contract ends in 3 years, when Dwight's comes up also so we can target the next person to team with him), with JJ already 28 and needing to dominate the ball. We already have that with Nelson.

That's true, but Orlando's greatest weakness in the playoffs was consistent shot creation - if Dwight was being bodied up, and Jameer couldn't make space, Orlando came to a standstill. Joe Johnson would give them that element, while at the same time taking away things that Orlando doesn't really need (a starting caliber C playing 12 minutes a game, a great 3 point shooter playing out of position because of the spacing/creation issue).

It's amazing how VC can still fool people after all these years in the league.

That's a very interesting trade from a basketball perspective. I'm not exactly sure that Orlando wants to go away from their Dwight+4 shooters concept though.

The biggest problem is that Orlando is sending out much more salary than they are taking in.

It's amazing that you think I'm trading for VC on his own merit.

Also, T&T brought up that we'd need to ship out Bibby as well to make salaries match.
