Report: Heat-Mavericks talking trade
11:03 AM CDT on Tuesday, July 6, 2010

From Staff and Wire Reports
The Miami Heat have discussed a deal with the Dallas Mavericks to acquire big man Brendan Haywood, the Miami Herald reported, citing a player and a separate agent who have been directly involved in those discussions.

Miami would part with Heat free agent center Jermaine O'Neal or Michael Beasley — or both. The Heat has met with Mavericks free agent center Haywood already. It also has talked with the Utah Jazz and power forward Carlos Boozer.

It's possible the Heat would also seek a backup point guard from Dallas, with Rodrigue Beaubois and J.J. Barea both playing behind Jason Kidd.

Any potential sign-and-trade with Utah would certainly center on a O'Neal-for-Boozer swap, with free agent Jazz swingman Kyle Korver also a possible Heat target.

Beasley has been erratic in his two years with the Heat. But he was the No. 2 overall draft pick in 2008 and is only 21. He averaged 14.8 points and 6.4 rebounds last season, and it would seem logical that his numbers are only going to get better.

O'Neal, who is a free agent and could be a part of a sign-and-trade, once averaged 24 points per game, but his scoring dipped to about 14 last season as he's struggled with injuries in recent years.

SnT Oneal will be good if we get a PG or a shooter out of it

Beasley only needs to be SnT for Bosh

I'm guessing they're serious about getting Shaq. I'm down with that trade though.

It says we
We're also seeking either Roddy or JJ, I'd rather try and get Roddy because hes younger and has some upside.

I'd love to do Beasley and JO for Roddy and Haywood.

Mavericks get a good 6th man scoring punch or starting SF, since Beasley plays a lot perimeter anyways. And a starting Center, with Dampier's 13m contract likely to be voided since its unguaranteed.

So possibly

Roddy/Chalmers
Wade/
Miller/D'sean
Bosh/Haslem?/Varnado
Haywood/Joel/Pittman

Wow, Beaubois would be a hell of a steal in that trade. He's only 22 years old, and has been very impressive when he's been given PT. I thought the Mavs were high on him as well.

If Riley pulls it off, I'd be thrilled.

Riley had some interest in Rodrigue Beaubois last season during the draft. I am not sure JJ Barea at 5'11 is a player Riley would be willing to take on.

Barea's one of those people who look like they were almost born a dwarf, but narrowly missed it by a chromosome or two.

Or I dunno, maybe it's just me.

5'11 is short? What has this world come to! Not everyone is a tall ball player!

Haywood would be a perfect fit for you guys if you also land Bosh.

PG Chalmers/Barea
SG Wade
SF ????
PF Bosh
C Haywood/Anthony

You would still have $6-8M in cap room to land a SF (assuming Haywood is signed for $8-10M). A guy like Miller could work, but Josh Howard might be a more prudent signing because he'll be cheaper. You could then add one more cheap role player (maybe keep Dorell Wright, maybe try and convince Haslem to stay) and round out the roster with minimum salary vets. Maybe next year you can use the MLE to upgrade at PG.

As a Bulls fan....I figured Haywood was a forgone conclusion for you guys.

But...the double S&T is a slick move...that way it gets J.O. more money and allows you to dump Beasley if you want to. Plus, Dallas does not have to use their MLE.

I like it when GM's think oustside of the box.

I don't see any way the Mavs would agree if the Heat ask for Roddy Beaubois. Haywood/Barea for Beasley/O'Neal I could see. Wade, Bosh, Haywood, Chalmers is a pretty good lineup.

lol at Beaubois even being mentioned in this trade without Wade being involved....

Im fine with a O'neal/Beasley for Haywood/Barea type trade though, but as soon as they ask for Beaubois i betcha Cuban hangs up...

lol at Beaubois having value anywhere near high enough to mention his name and Wade's in the same sentence. Oh man... that is hilarious.

Im not saying his value is close to Wade just that we won't trade him for anybody else on that small roster

Beasley-not a good fit but talented also stupid lol
O'neal-old tard
Chalmers-Beaubois is way better

Come on JCL! I love the Mavericks and I think Beaubois is something special but saying his value is equal to Wade's is beyond ridiculous.

Hahahahahaha... oh wow, I honestly didn't know who Beaubois is, so I looked him up on BBall reference.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/pla ... bro01.html

7 points, 1.5 rebounds/assists a game, Dorell Wright numbers... and he is untouchable apparently. :D

But like every overrated young player on RealGM, great per 36 averages, so there is that.

To be fair to Beaubois, he only averaged 12.5 mpg. When he did get playing time, he did put up good number's. What impresses me the most about him is that he shot 51.8% from the field, and 40.9% from 3.

He's a very quick, and a good shooter.

Obviously he's a young player, and you're banking on him getting better, but I'd take his 'potential' over guys like Anthony Randolph, etc.

I do question his role as a PG though. He's a shoot-first, shoot-second type IMO. Definitely a scorer, not a distributor.

This trade sucks for the Heat unless we are definitely assured the miami is getting CHRIS BOSH even then its still not worth it.
Haywood = Blount
Before this season Haywood only average 7rebounds per game now all of a sudden he is a 13-10-2.5bpg guy.

I can guarantee that Beaubois is not part of that package anymore than Dirk will be.

The only way Roddy ends up in Miami is if wade ends up in Dallas and if that was hte case, this would not be a Haywood rumor.
