Can We Get a Kobe Statue Already

Post#1 » by Mamba Venom » Wed Jul 7, 2010 5:21 am

Can We Get a Kobe Statue Already. Do we really need to wait until he retires. Check out his play-off stats in years we've won it all.

2000
21.1 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 5.4 apg

2001
29.3 ppg, 7.3rpg, 6.1 apg

2002
26.6 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 4.6 apg

2009
30.2 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 5.2 apg

2010
29.2 ppg, 6rpg, 5.5 apg

While we're at it. Why not move the NON Laker statues to their own place. It looks weird to see a lifesize Magic and a midget Oscar De La Hoya next to each other. We should have a hockey side, a boxing side and a basketball (Laker side). Put the Clips over by the ESPN bar.

It's too early. But there is always too late (see: Chick Hearn statue). I wish the organization could have recognized him much sooner. 1965 to 2002? Are you kidding me? I understand no one could have predicted his death in the summer of 2002 but it took 8 years to get a statue out front. Shame.

Which number for his jeresy and he does not deserve a statute at this time. He needs to get line behind a few others.

Kobe will get one no question. Magic even said it during the finals that kobe won a statue outside of staples when he won the 5th ring. Kareem should get it before kobe, so they should hop on that immediately. Now, i'm only 19, and Kobe came into the league the same year i became a fan, so i might be a little biased here. I just cant see how kobe doesnt get a statue, and like kareem, i think he will eventually.

Kobe's still playing! He should at least wait till he retires, that's not fair to Kareem or Mikan, players highly responsible for creating the respected dynasties of the 50s & 80s. AFTER that's been done put a statue of Kobe. KAJ's is REALLY overdue.

if Kareem doesn't get one no one else does. I think Magic statue represents more than just the Lakers. It represents the entertainment factor that he brought to the city and to the NBA. Magic rose above the sport and I think that's why that statue is there. In my opinion Kobe is more like a gladiator than a showman. Kobe rises above the sport but not like Magic. Kobe's statue should be at Ruckers park or something to represent hardwork and dedication that he put into basketball.

They should make a statue for all the Lakers Legends and just spread them around the Staples Center. I have no idea why the hell they would make an Oscar De La Hoya statue before a Kareem statue. It does not make any sense.

Hell, what about Jerry West as well?

Frankly, it would be cool if they gave everyone with a retired jersey a statue, and create a little "avenue of legends" outside of Staples Center.

If not, at least get ones up for Jerry and Kareem, then Kobe when he retires.

Didn't see that, +1. Great idea. Nobody's had more legit legends than the Lakers. Celebrate that heritage.

I am pretty sure someone bought that for him and they requested permission to put it there. I know Mr. Buss or the Lakers org didn't arrange that.

I agree with a Kareem statue...no doubt about it.

Kobe too - when he retires.

Something that the Lakers could do to really differentiate Kobe and his two different dynasties would be to retire # 8 and # 24 at the end of his career.

- or, even better -

When Shaq retires put up # 34 and at the same ceremony while Kobe is still playing retire # 8, then when Kobe retires, also put up # 24.

Shaq probably wouldn't go for that, but it would be pretty cool.
