I think some people would take Ellis and his contract, but it has hown a lot how empty and inefficient Elliss stats are. I think Iggy and his contract are definitely the best on that list.
It seems like a lot of people will on Realgm say Iggy's contract is bad, but that should change a lot with this crazy offseason.

Before I thought Iggy's highest trade value for the duration of his contract was right now, but that was assuming a owner favored CBA was in the works. It seems now that the owners don't have much leverage with the contracts that have been given out. maybe Iggy could still get good value in a year or two, but I still think trading Iggy in the best possible package available is the move to make though.
I disagree. I believe all of the horrible contracts given out this offseason will give the owners even more leverage in the CBA negotiations. These terrible contracts are significant proof of how bad the current CBA's salary structure is.
The NBA desperately needs a hard cap. I'd like to see a hard cap, along with max salaries but keeping the exception that allows a team to pay more to their own free agent. This means stars will tend to stay with their current team, however there is still a hard cap so tough choices need to be made elsewhere if you pay your own guys more than anyone else can.

Re: The Sixerfan1976 Off-Season Thread (Update: Page 11)
The NBA's leverage in negotiations was that many teams are losing money. The contracts given out this summer definitely strengthen the player's argument that the NBA is not losing as much money as they say or losing money at all, and that they can afford to pay players.
The current CBA structure needs change, that is pretty obvious, but overspending this summer definitely decreases the NBA owner's negotiating leverage. i don't think that point can even be argued, it is pretty much a fact.
It seems like the NBPA will go into negotiations with a lot of leverage, and we won't see as many concessions as originally thought.

I think that we might be in for a long work stoppage and prob lose at least 10 games if not half a season. I hope not but that's where this is headed.

I don't know about a long work stoppage. Seems to me that if the owners are throwing this kind of money around that they aren't in as bad a situation as they are making out. I'm sure they'd like a set--up like the NFL, that is is so tight that teams can't really lose money but that kind of hard cap would limit teams' ability to try to win. Seriously, can you imagine Cuban, Buss, the NJ owner, or MSG agreeing to a hard cap? I think we'll see posturing, maybe a short work stoppage, & than an agreement that retains the soft cap but reduces contract years & maybe makes a provision for injured players. I'm hoping we see another amnesty. Goodbye Elton!

Given the Wade/Bosh free agency move, Durant's extension and the rumored trades in Portland, Minnesota and other places, it is almost anti-climatic that we are focused on the back-up centers for Oklahoma City and Memphis.

I am 100% convinced that Iguodala isnt going anywhere unless we get a star back in the deal.
We seem to be just waiting for the top 7 or 8 free agents to decide where they are going before we make a move.
We may try and move Green or Kapono for a future 2nd to shed salary or Thad for a player/pick and and/or sign Cedric Simmons to be our 13th guy.
Nothing is hot right now on any fronts....

On the very limited amount I have seen, I'd be fine signing Simmons to a one year, league minimum deal right now, regardless of other moves. Considering guys like McCaskill, Gai, Booth, and Brezec graced our roster for the minimum, why not lock down a 24 year old that actually still has some upside and ability at a position that is not exactly settled in Philly?

Simmons was unimpressive today, but played well in the other 2 games.

Doesn't sound like we should expect any impact moves to happen this summer. Meh.

I think it's very important what the Sixers try to do with Thad. Clearly there's no room for him (unless he's playing the 4), yet he's young enough and got enough talent to make resigning him next offseason an issue. What we decide to do with him is not only going to effect us big time now, but next offseason as well.
I think if we want any hope of resigning Hawes, we should trade Thad.

Something has definitely gotta give, because right now I estimate that there will be 40 minutes per game left over for Young, Green, Meeks, Nocioni, Smith, and Kapono combined.

30 for Young, 10 for Nocioni, and 0 for everyone else. Add minutes for Nocioni first, then everyone else when the inevitable injuries hit.

Re: The Sixerfan1976 Off-Season Thread (Update: Page 16)
Based on the new salary cap posted (~70 million), we have around ~4 million of cap room before the luxury tax. Do we really need to cut salary just for the sake of cutting salary?
I can't believe I'm going to write this, but I don't know that I'm in favor of releasing Kapono/Green unless (a) we're going to use the space to sign an MLE or (b) they become a locker room issue. We have a really young team already (24.6 years of age on average); the Sixers have 8 players that are younger than 25 and only 2 players that are 30 or older (Brand and Nocioni).
I mean, we need some veterans on the bench... don't we?

Re: The Sixerfan1976 Off-Season Thread (Update: Page 16)
That doesn't seem to be an update so much as an opinion. Sixers clearly not getting a start for Iguodala because he's not a star and they are unlikely to just dump him for cap relief for PR reasons. Simmons is the only guy in camp with NBA experience and we need another big, so saying we might sign him as a 13th man isn't saying much. No one is going to give us a 2nd round pick for Green because why would someone overpay for a minimum salary guy and eat into their cap and give up a pick. Kapono is in the last year of his contract and some team might value his shooting enough to give us a second rounder with an expiring contract, but no team with cap space is going to give up $6 million of it, pay Kapono the money, and give up a pick.

Re: The Sixerfan1976 Off-Season Thread (Update: Page 16)
Yeah, no one will give us assets to take on the bad contracts of Green or Kapono. We would have to give up assets to get rid of them. Better to let them warm the bench and expire, or include them in a package at the trade deadline in exchange for a stud big man.

Re: The Sixerfan1976 Off-Season Thread (Update: Page 16)
Together, they make close to $10 million. Someone might find that enticing. No one is moving a stud big man for expiring contracts, but if New Orleans for example is struggling and the Sixers are exceeding all expectations, it's not totally unreasonable to think that a package of Kapono, Green and Jason Smith could get us Emeka Okafor if Sixers want him. Something like that could become doable at the deadline. The problem for the Sixers is that they have to think long term viability as well - new CBA could lower salaries and the cap, luxury tax, etc. With Brand and Iguodala on the books, and with eventual need to resign some of the young guys, we might not have the financial flexibility to take on additional salary.

Re: The Sixerfan1976 Off-Season Thread (Update: Page 16)
I really think common sense needs to prevail here. WE have too many SF's and not enough bigs. One is going to go. Here is our list. SF: Kapono, Noc, Thad, Iggy
Center is Jason SMith and Hawes. Charmin and Charmin light. We need an upgrade here big time.
Power forward is Speights and Brand. I like us there. Brand is ready for a good year under a good coach. ANd SPeights i think will improve some more.
Guards Meeks, Jrue, Turner, Green, Lou We are good here.
NOw the only question is who and when. I think that Thad is staying because they will be able to get him on the cheap after the new CBA is structured. Somewhere in the 7-8m range.
Its almost common knowledge that they want to shed payroll. THey are going to lose money again this year. 65m and with a fan base of what 12k fans a night? Multiply that by 41 games and and maybe what is the average ticket $100.00? U r looking at under 50m in attendance money.
I still think they have to move Iguodala for financial reasons. They aren't much better with him. IN other words he doesnt make this team a 50 win team. Which is needed to boost the attendance numbers. The fan base could care less about a 40 win season and a trip to the playoffs. Philly fans know better then this. They have to rebuild this team for the future and so far i think they are headed in the right direction.. Jrue and Et will be in place. Hopefully Thad and SPeights can develop, And we can find a center somethere. Maybe this is where Iggy's worth comes in.
I still think this team is no where near done with moves. Too man SF's
