Rings no longer matter in this league. If we see the Bulls and their loaded roster completely strike out in this free agency period, it will signal the downfall of the NBA. Half the league and more disturbing most of the Elite players do not care about winning rings. This sport is more about getting paid, having a city to call your own and your sneakers sold.

Other than the Lakers, Celtics, Spurs and Magic. Who is legitimately doing all they can to win a title? They aren't. The NBA is officially more about image than product on the court. No one cares about winning championships any longer.

Which begs the question, why do I continue to use championships as a way to measure and compare the NBA all time greats? It's obvious half the league does not care about it.

MVP's > Finals MVP's > Rings

Hey, at least the Bulls know they have a fair shot to win the NBA Championship if they earn it. As a Bucks fan, even if/when we have a great team, I know it will be almost impossible to overcome other loaded teams and their extra three men aka the refs.

Regardless, I'm just ignoring most of this free agent buzz, though I do get a kick out of the teams investing all their role players hoping to win the lottery known as "Free Agency 2010."

This is a fair point. If anyone should cry foul - it's teams like Milwaukee, Cleveland & Atlanta and that tiny little village in Canada called Toronto.

A team like Milwaukee can do everything right, and still not win. It's hard to win for any GM, but much harder for a small market team.


Detroit did it recently, but only once. Mostly, it's the big market teams that get the players and who win the trades when players have no trade clauses.



Small market teams need to get lucky in the lotto -not just a #1 pick, but a super #1 pick - the type who can really make a difference. A Tim Duncan or Shaq or Lebron and then, they need to be able to keep that guy. (San Antonio was, but Orlando and perhaps Cleveland too - won't be).


The Bulls made a good run and wade considered them, but he opted for the home team with the better weather.

Dude, the Bulls roster isn't that loaded. You just bought into the nonsense that Wilbon and Broussard were selling. They made Rose and Noah sound like the second coming of Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabber. The reality is that the Bulls barely made the playoffs, and possibly wouldn't have if Chris Bosh didn't get injured at the end of last season. I think the Bulls will still pick up Carlos Boozer (if Utah doesn't keep him) and be a good NBA/Eastern Conference team.

I think Bulls fans wanted to get two of the top 4 or 5 free agents and become contender, but, imo, any of the teams (with tons of cap space) that are able to get two of the top 5 free agents will have a chance to compete, no matter if what their roster looks like. Because Wade and Bosh didn't go to Chicago, it doesn't mean they don't care about winning rings.

If everybody just ran around chasing rings then all the free agents would jsut pile onto one mega team and it would be the Yankees in baseball. Parity would be destroyed, and nobody else would have a chance. $$ and a cap so teams have roughly the same amount to spend are the whole key to keeping things competitive.
