Chris Ballard had something funny to say as well...

Not sure what's wrong with Kevin Durant. Dude signs 5-year contract and forgets to hold TV special, flirt w/other team or co-opt headlines.

Great to see. He might be the only guy in his class who gets extended, most others will go to RFA with the uncertainty of the CBA teams will hope they can sign them under more restrictive terms.

Kevin Durant is probably one of a handful of players I'd extend in this situation, even if I knew the CBA would let me extend him for less. Nice to see this done.

Extending him prior to the CBA lockout shows that Oklahoma truly do value him and want him in the Franchise for the long haul. That will definitely sit favourably with Durant in the future.

Rockets fan here, but Durant has quickly become my favorite player. Not just because he's absolutely one of the best in the league, but with how he carries himself off the court. This is a perfect example... why blow it way out of proportion when he can simply sit down with his agent and team and get a contract signed? Kudos to him, and congrats to your team for getting him locked down.

According to the twitter-sphere, Durant's extension is for the full five years and has no option or opt our clause. This is a concession from Durant, who could have easily gotten a fifth year player option if he wanted.

Grizz fan here. Congrats to y'all, Thunder fans. Y'all deserve it. Y'all have THE classiest superstar in the league. This is how you handle a contract, LeBron. Take notes.

Assuming a $56.1 million salary cap it is:

2011: $14,025,000
2012: $15,497,625
2013: $16,970,250
2014: $18,442,875
2015: $19,915,500

Total: $84,851,250

Heat fan here.

Firstly - that contract looks great now... most teams would pay him $19m for his 09/10 performances.

Secondly - you're onto a winner with Durant. Strikes me as the next Kobe, hard-worker, committed to improving and leaving the publicity side of things well alone. Good luck with him guys :)
There is no consolation prize. Winning is everything.

The league has announced a salary cap of $58.044 million. This increases Kevin Durant's maximum salary by about $3 million:

2011: $14,511,000
2012: $16,034,655
2013: $17,558,310
2014: $19,081,965
2015: $20,605,620

Total: 5 years, $87,791,550.

Congrats to your team and its fans. Durant is a class act and I hope you all have a lot of success when you're not playing the Wizards.

Class acts from both sides.

The Thunder is kind enough to offer KD the max he deserves before the new CBA steps in (which players are not going to be fans of).
KD is confident in his team and decided against having an opt out clause.

Morale of the team will be very high. Morale of the FANS will be through the roof (well, kinda  ).
Great moves from both sides.

Wise decision by both KD and the Thunder.
