Defense, defense, defense

Post#1 » by StocktonShorts » Wed Jul 7, 2010 11:55 pm

With Boozer now gone and Memo out for likely half the season, I'd like to see the Jazz put more emphasis on defense, because honestly I have my doubts that a rotation of:

Fesenko
Millsap
AK
Matthews
D-Will
Miles
Hayward
Koufos

is going to be effective enough to simply "out-offense" the opposition. With that in mind, what other guys should the Jazz target with their TPE or with what's left of their MLE? Do you think this team can/will be better defensively? Is the current coaching staff good enough defensively to get them there? (I have my doubts)

(BTW - this isn't meant as a knock on Boozer -- I actually think he played as well on defense last year as Millsap did. I don't think they're better defensively just by virtue of his absence)

Ronnie Price is still on the team. So thats 9 players with your list. We still need 6 more players to fill the team. **obviuosly assuming we get Matthews and Fesenko back which I think will happen too.

I'm guessing:

Gaines comes back.
Jeffers comes back.
Armstrong makes the team.
Evans makes the team.

We use our trade exceptions to sign a player or 2.
***current exceptions and expirations
Harpring $6,500,000 expires 22nd December 2010
Maynor $1,318,920 expires 22nd December 2010
Brewer $2,717,161 expires 18th February 2010
TOTAL $10,536,081 use or lose

We resign Brewer with the BAE.

None of the players mentioned have ever been considered defensive juggernauts. KOC needs to make a huge move with the assets we have. AK's large expiring contract and our exceptions.

The question would be who could we possibly get using our Trade exceptions? The biggest being 6.5Mil so any players we pick up can only make this or less. They cannot be combined so not sure who you go after with them that would bring an impact to the team.
