Why are people ripping on Ronaldo so much? Makes around 0 sense to me. The dude is the only good player on that team. He's not super-man and at least he managed to score. I think it has to be a merger of the Ities/Frogs/English.

Green

Italian defense

French midfield

English strikers

Ronaldo was invisible, but that also had a lot to do with how he was used. Why the F would you put your best playmaker at striker where he needs to rely on his teammates to get him the ball? He should have been playing LM or LW. Portugal wasn't Real but I guess they thought they could play CR like he was still in Madrid.

Did Algeria even attempt one shot at goal?

I didn't see most of the Slovenia game because I watched USA - Algeria...

but in the Germany game he was awful.

first goal: hesitantly rushing out, he could have gotten their first. Just as much Upson's fault too though.

second goal: he was rushing out but not doing a good job trying to block the shot, so much space underneath him... he wasn't concetrated on the ball imo.

third goal: nice counter by Germany but Müller's shot was straight at him, he went down to the ground too early imo and then still, he should have put it out for a corner.

Only the 4th goal was not his fault in any way. Besides that he did have a few saves but nothing spectacular. The biggest difference with Green to me was how he presented himself. Looked much more confident, but not necessarily rightfully so imo, in hindsight.

I just picked him because of the big expectations. His goal wasn't that impressive, vs North Korea and with plenty of luck. But you know, if this "worst 11" of the WC I wouldn't pick him... flops is different though imo, because of the expectations.

You are a bit harsh on David James here.

1st goal was clearly Upson's mistake. Not much you can do as a keeper when a striker is alone in front of the goal other than hoping that he misses. He prevented England from going down 2-0 then (Klose was alone in front of him again).

It was a bit unlucky that he got nutmegged by Podolski then but the real question here is why do 2 German players play 2 vs. 1 in front of the English goal? That's really bad defending there. As a keeper you are a poor sod if your defense defends like they did in that case.

Third goal was clearly his mistake.
