Re: Possible Point Guards?
here is my wish list from this weak FA class. some rules to my list 1) i dont agree with the kings overpaying for any of these guys, if they get an offer that is too high, move down the list to the next guy. 2) he has to be okay coming off the bench.
1) Raymond Felton
2) Luke Ridnour
3) Steve Blake
4) CJ watson (really like his game)
5) Kyle Lowry (one of my favorite rocket players)
6) Shaun Livingston ( Finally looked healthy and was able to show signs of his former self last season; he averaged 15.5 points and 6.3 assists in April)

Roger Mason (not point but can shoot the 3s)
Jason Williams (bring him back as a backup, could help with leadership)
^^Did you really just say Jason Williams and Leadership in the same sentence???
sactown15 wrote:Luke Ridnour (can hit some threes and run the point)
Rafer Alston (fast pace game/shoots 3's/compliments Reke)
Larry Hughes (shoots 3's/veteran guard that could come off bench)
Raymond Felton (plays D, could be good with our future lineup)
Didn't we just HAVE Larry Hughes and waive him?
Alston? Maybe.
Not familiar with Ridnour or Felton.

Forgot about Watson, he'd be my number 1 overall choice to be honest. I think he'd fit great next to Reke. He can play semi-PG and is probably strong enough to guard some 2's. Yeah, he's my guy.

if we were to be a contender this year then eddie house would be ideal, but being as how we aren't, we'd just be wasting eddie house's time...i think there are contending teams that are willing to offer him the same money or more than we are, and put his services to better use. but great player that fits exactly what we need for except maybe being 4 in shorter than we'd like him to be.

We just took a huge step by adding talent in the frontcourt, which will allow the team to take a step forward, but we still have a long way to go. Because of that, I don't see any need to start thinking about overpaying guys that won't fit perfectly into this team moving forward. That is even more true when you consider that the next CBA has a good chance of setting the bar a bit lower for contracts.
We can get through this season with a UDFA or a one year stopgap veteran getting some limited minutes. We have another likely lotto pick coming up that can help fill the need for a shooter. We will have even more cap room next offseason. Depending on how fast our bigs progress, we have assets like Dalembert and Landry to dangle leading up to the trade deadline. I think Petrie would be wise to stay patient.
Totally agree. You can afford to wait and this year's FA PG class sucks, so I think getting a one year stop gap veteran makes the most sense for your team. You could then draft a nice PG prospect (Irving, Knight) or you draft one of Harrison Barnes (SF, North Carolina)/Perry Jones (PF/SF, Baylor)/Enes Kanter (PF, Kentucky)/Jonas Valanciunas (PF, Lithuania) and draft Kalin Lucas/Kemba Walker with a lower draft pick. You definitely have the pieces to trade up or get additional draft picks. Obviously it's way too early to predict who you will draft next year, but the chance to get a talented PG is much higher next year than this year.

It's amazing how names just fall off the map. I'd be interested in the Kings bringing in Mike Taylor. The Clippers mysteriously waived him last summer after a decent rookie season and he went over to Europe. I remember when he played against the Kings. He's really athletic and would be nice back-up PG. He lit up the Knicks for 35. He's 24 years old and I'm sure we could get him really cheap.

Bobcats and closet Kings fan here.
Raymond Felton would be a great fit. He's a good defender, reasonably smart decision maker, and made improvements this year. He isn't returning to Charlotte because we don't want to pay him as MJ doesn't want to go over the luxury tax. He did well with Gerald Wallace and Stephen Jackson and I think he would do great with Tyreke.

I was anti-Felton up until last year. It seemed like Felton can become an efficient player that I hoped.
I think he would fit very well with Tyreke. Felton is almost at the top of my list of players to target in the offseason.
