This doesn't look like the first step of any rebuilding process to me. In fact, it looks like more of the same retooling that we see every offseason.

Not that Kleiza is a bad player, of course, he's a decent role guy with toughness, but I just don't see the point as it pertains to turning this team into a contender in the long-term.

What is the definition of rebuilding?

Tanking to get a higher pick? Maybe we're already bad enough to be in the lottery, does Kleiza change that? And if you look at who's going to be getting a lot of minutes - Derozan, Davis, Bargnani, Alabi are all young guys that could be playing big minutes.

The dude represents a lot of what this team actually needs. Grit, toughness, he can score 12+ a game, grab you 5 boards and play hard defense.

I like the move. He's pretty young at 25, and he's a tough player and decent rebounder that is aggressive attacking the rim and can hit the 3. Depending on how things shake out with Hedo or if we end up taking back another SF through trades, he could start or be a valuable guy off the bench. Glad it's not a full MLE offer, I don't think Denver will match but if they do then we can target someone else.

Excellent signing. Kleiza at 4/$20 is less than what Childress, Reddick, Brown, and Outlaw are going to make, and he might be better than all of them. He's 25 years old, so we'll have him in his prime. I can see this being a Jarrett Jack type of value signing. This makes me think that a Hedo deal is in place, because I'm not sure you can have Kleiza and Hedo on the floor at the same time. Hedo for Pietrus and Gortat!

If you hate this deal because you want a full rebuild, you have a point.
But if you are against signing Kleiza because you think he sucks you are crazy. In term of skills, defense, shooting, age and attitude he is much better than Hedo and for less than half the price as a 25 year old, he is exactly who we needed when we signed an old Turk for twice as much. He would really be a nice addition if the Nuggets can do us a small favor.

MLSE seems unlikely to follow through on such an idea, especially as long as Colangelo is still here.

Yes, because getting the 8th spot and losing in 4 games ultimately isn't going to help this team get anywhere. They need more young talent and one of the best (and only) ways the Raptors can acquire young talent is through the draft.

Okay so in two years, that new pick is finally able to play big minutes and Jack and DeMar's contract is up, what do we offer them to stay, more losing? Much better to think long term and also put the best and most competitive team on the floor night in and night out.
