Guys, if we don't get LeBron, I say we trade Beasley or use him at the 3 and get Haywood and Felton;

Haywood
Bosh
Beasley
Wade
Felton

Sounds good to me!

I'm not an expert on cap stuff. but Vet min does not count against salary cap yes?

Vet mins count against the cap but you are allowed to sign these types of contracts to fill your roster.
Once you get to the cap you are allowed to only sign vet mins or less to fill your roster.
If you were over the cap to start then you can be granted the mid level exception.
So to recap they count against the cap and the team will pay luxury tax for all the contract signed over the cap even if vet mins.

The Heat will have to become a media juggernaut and sellout games to avoid losing money. It should not be a problem if superteam is assembled.

I was startled to see that at the start of their Boozer acquisition thread they were detailing who to add to become a serious title contender.

Their first choice and top option to complete their serious contender status? Anthony Morrow.

Bullfans are insane....
But Don't sleep on Morrow
I'm still piss we had the 1st shot at Morrow

As he played on the Miami Heat summer league team 2 years ago

If Lebron decision is to play elsewhere
a combination of Haywood ,Miller or Morrow,Raja Bell,Ben Wallace would be nice...

I can't believe the possibility of LeBron/Wade/Bosh is actually a real one. At a certain point during free agency some of us were down in the dumps because we weren't sure that Wade was gonna stay. Now look at us.

Whatever does happen though, I hope we remain respectable here on RealGM. Let us not turn into the same kind of fans that other franchises have and that we abhor. Let us approach our winning with humility, like our hero Dwyane Wade has always done.

Go HEAT! I can't believe this.

So now that the cap is out, has anyone done any number crunching for the different possible scenarios?

How much cap space would we have if we signed the trio to the full max without moving Beasley?
How much cap space would we have if we signed the trio to the full max and moved Beasley?
How much cap space would we have if the trio took a 1 mil or less pay cut (thats the most I can see them giving up)?
How much would we have if LeBron decided to go elsewhere and we gave Wade and Bosh the max (w/ Beasley and w/o)?

Possible Sign & Trade?

Post#671 » by isawoj » Thu Jul 8, 2010 3:39 pm

If LaBron does go to Miami, what would you think of a Beasley trade to Golden State for an MLE-signed Anthony Morrow and Beidrens?

So many things wrong here, I don't know where to start. Hmmm...

1. It's LeBron, with an 'e'

2. You can't use your MLE to sign-and-trade

3. Biedrins makes way too much to match salaries in a deal with Beasley

4. There's probably a Random Trade Idea thread this belongs in

Vet mins count against the cap but you are allowed to sign these types of contracts to fill your roster.

Actually vet min only partially counts against the cap depending on length of contract. For 1 year, 10 day, or rest of season contracts, the league reimburses teams for the difference between the players vet minimum and the minimum for a 2 year player. The team cap is only charged the amount of a minimum contract for a 2 year player (about $850-900k). So if you sign a 10 year vet to a minimum one year contract (about $1.4MM), you only take a cap hit for the 2 year vet minimum. The rule is there to encourage signing older players and not put them at a disadvantage relative to less experienced players.

False. The luxury tax threshold is set something like $10-12 million over the cap. I don't think it's actually possible for Miami to reach the lux tax this next season b/c of the salary cap rules, the lack of assets Miami can send out in trades, the value of 12 vet min contracts, etc. It might be able to just get to the tax, but the team won't exceed it, I can guarantee you that. I doubt we even come that close, though.

Also, Miami will in all likelihood have a lower payroll this year than last. We paid the lux tax last year.

Yep, can't find the post right now but I can go through it with you based on my memory...

How much cap space would we have if we signed the trio to the full max without moving Beasley?

Not quite possible. If we sign Bosh & Wade and don't move Beasley, we'll have $13.75 million left over, just under $3 million short of the max. So if we were to keep Beasley, we'd basically have to sign the other 3 to contracts slightly below max (about ~900K less) and go right up to the salary cap.

How much cap space would we have if we signed the trio to the full max and moved Beasley?

With Wade, Bosh, and no Beasley we'd have ~$18.65 in space, so adding another max gives us ~$2 million left over to spend

How much cap space would we have if the trio took a 1 mil or less pay cut (thats the most I can see them giving up)?

As per above, with 1 million pay cuts, we could keep Beasley and have zero cap space, or dump Beasley have have ~$5 million in cap space

How much would we have if LeBron decided to go elsewhere and we gave Wade and Bosh the max (w/ Beasley and w/o)?

Again, as detailed above, Wade + Bosh + Beasley gives us $13.75 mil, Wade + Bosh gives us ~$18.65 mil

I still dont beleive all the reports out. Hoping for the best though.

If we get Lebron, our focus will have to be moving Beasley for a starting piece at pg or center. If we dont, our focus will of course be using the 12 or so million for two starters at the same positions

How the heck did I spell his name wrong? It has been forced fed to me at every turn for the last two weeks. :D

I guess you can tell I'm not a realGM frequenter. I know very little about trade rules. Sorry.

Just a GT fan trying to get Morrow the hell out of Golden State and to a real team. I think he would be an incredible complimentary piece for a contender.

Again, as detailed above, Wade + Bosh + Beasley gives us $13.75 mil, Wade + Bosh gives us ~$18.65 mil

Found my spreadsheet, here's the actual numbers, I believe accurate to the dollar

If Dwyane Wade, Lebron, and Bosh each took pay cuts of $779,585, they'd start at salaries of $15,789,323 each and if we kept Beasley we'd be $2.00 under the cap. Yes, two dollars.

Wade + Bron + Bosh all maxed out (no Beas) = $2,149,883 remaining to spend

A $1 million even pay cut for LBJ/Wade/Bron + Beasley would leave us with $661,247 to spend, not enough to really justify the paycut over the 770K

A $1 mil pay cut w/o Beas = $5,149,883 to spend
