Re: OT: soccer thread
Apparently Barca had to take out a loan to pay their players last month. They still had no trouble digging up 40 million euros to buy David Villa and have 50 million more on hand to buy Fabregas apparently. I'm not an expert but I've heard that Barca and Real survive on sweet-heart loan deals from Spanish banks who might not be especially solvent themselves as of late. I don't care how big they are, If Real and Barca are living hand-to-mouth then a complete Leeds-style collapse isn't out of the question for the two of them one day.

the funny thing is... real spent all that money last year even though they had a stacked squad. kaka did nothing. the players they sold sneijder and robben ended up meeting in the CL finals. that's a 9 on the unintentional comedy scale. however, i do believe the special one will get that team a title w/in two years. ugh.
I think it already has undergone some overhaul in terms of spending, as even a guy like Abramovic doesn't wants to pay his old guys(Ballack, J. Cole etc.) all that much anymore and has drastically limited his spendings on new players.
In Germany that had to be done a couple years ago, with the guy paying for the TV contract going in dept and the league having to sign a contract for way less money.
Though, it did good for us, as teams are now more intelligent in using their money and are willed to give their youngsters a chance.
As far as Barca and Real goes.
There are new Presidents about every two or so years and every time a new guy gets that position they'll buy two or three new top players because that's what they guarantee their voters to get voted in.

Yes, they had to take out a loan to pay their players and still did buy Villa for 40 million euros. And there's also a lot of talk about Fabregas joining him in Barcelona with a move for about those 50 million as well.
Like i've said, no one really knows how they do it or where that money's coming from, but Barca and especially Real always seem to get that money somehow. And like you've said, those banks aren't the weathiest anymore as well and it could easily fall apart some day.
Still, it's Barca and Real and there'll always be a solution found for them, if they hurt financially.

Re: OT: soccer thread
good point about some teams curbing spending. really man city is the only PL team right now throwing money around. chelsea gets a bad rap for all the money they spent when jose first game, but compared to what real and barca have done the past 2 years its a drop in the bucket. and really chelsea hasnt signed a mega star in years. the last people we brought in are: malouda, deco, bosingwa, anelka, ivanovic, zhirkov, sturridge and benayoun. those are all second tier guys and none of them cost all that much in terms of transfers. of course, that all changes if chelsea really does offer that massive deal for torres. or if they can finally pry kaka away, like they've been trying to do for years. personally i would rather seem them go for aguero and then build with the youngsters like kakuta, borini, mancienne, bruma etc...

Re: OT: soccer thread
Yes,as E4 said our baks are used associated to the teams and avoid the financial crisis of the two biggest teams.I can´t complain because Valencia has a terrible debt and one of the national bakns,Bancaja, loans its funds to keep the team on the first division,we still have to pay about 300 million euros but that´s because we have to stop the construction of the New Arena we were building and the terrains were Mestalla (our stadium) is cannot be sold because of the crisis.
But it´s a shame that Mallorca C.F has a debt of 60 million euros and now they have to sell Valero/Aduriz/Dudú/Chori and practically everyone of its players (Mallorca as the revelation last season earning the fifth position to entry in the Europa League, and if Sevilla C.F hadn´t scored in the last second of the last game they would participate on the Champions League) and that´s because they don´t have a bank supporting the team.Recently they sold it to a group of bussinesmen leaded by former coach Serra Ferrer for just 30 millions.
Here in Spain I think we are building castles over sand (one of the causes we went into this crisis so deep),Zaragoza,Barça and Madrid are good examples, the first team i mentioned spent millions and millions just to avoid going to the second division, and now they have to take loan after loan. And unfortunately the teams willing to have a healthy economy like my Racing de Ferrol (It´s a little city on Galicia) are going to the lower divisions because they can´t afford to pay big salaries with money they don´t have.
I hope someday Madrid and Barça are forced to see in desperation how your best purchase is a French lateral who came free. And how they can´t fight for stealing the biggest stars of Europe and America.

Yeah, Mallorca is really forced to sell it's players and that started even last season.
That's why my club(Borussia Mönchengladbach) got their hands on a real good player(Juan Arango) that wouldn't have transfered to the Bundesliga a couple years ago.

I think it's not just in Spain, but also in Italy and England.
In the EPL there are hardly teams that aren't in depts(with the exception of Chelsea and Arsenal i think) and the reason for it is the unreal drop off in money you won't be able to make in the 2nd division. All teams rather go in huge depts instead of staying financially stable and risk being relegated into the 2nd division because the difference in money you can make is about 30 mil euors or even british pounds.
In Italy there's lots of talk about teams not being able to pay their players on a regular basis and there's also that huge problem with fan support, as the stadiums are pretty poor and with all that violance keeping families and kids from attending games.
Also, the game isn't all that great for fans in England, because the ticket prices are pretty high and there are only seats, which doesn't really suits the long time fans all that well.
I mean, in Germany you can go see a game, stand in the standings, drink a beer and eat something(a nice Bratwurst or so
That's something most other leagues can't offer anymore, as they're forced to raise ticket prices so they can pay their players and keep adding those big name players.

Yeah, i can understand that.
I mean, my club had been nearly bankrupt 11 years ago, when they were relegated the the 2nd Bundesliga and weren't really able to buy players, being forced on real cheap signings and guys that weren't on a contract somewhere else.
Though, we've gotten back to the league, built a new stadium and after being down in the 2nd league three years ago things look up right now.

That Forlan goal was so sexy. Goodness Gracious.
If Suarez wasn't so mentally screwed after the beating he's taken, he'd have two himself. Germany is looking a little overmatched

Fantastic Boateng cross leads to Jansen's equalizer. Uruguay keeper is having some trouble tonight, fumbled a lot of balls.

Edit: And Muller´s goal reminded me of Raul when he was younger, always there to catch a rebound and score without goalkeeper.

Usually I get seriously annoyed with all of the rolling around on the ground by these soccer clowns (and this game is no exception. There has been more yellow cards than there has been shots on goal) but that boot to the chest wold have left a mark for sure!

That's the one!
It's really looking like Holland is trying to beat the Spanish players up a bit since they aren't as talented. Didn't know so many MMA fighters come from there

Re: OT: soccer thread
some horrendous challenges by holland. lucky to have 11 guys still on the field. both teams with some good changes so far. spain being spain, sideways, sideways, sideways, through ball.
seriously that de jong challenge was just awful. obvious red. id hate to see wc final with a red in the first half, but jesus, what the hell was he thinking.
does holland sub de jong of van bommel at the half for fear of another yellow?
robben looking good when he gets the ball.

one of the good things about usa and germany and england, those guys typically arent divers. spain and holland, thats another story. but nobody dives like the african teams, italy and latin america.

Re: OT: soccer thread
that kick to the chest reminds me of the man u vs chelsea game last year when drogba was karate kicked in the chest, except drogba got a yellow, not the guy that kicked him. drogba being notorious for diving... which he does sell it, but still...
