But with his crappy shot, I don't know that he's ever going to be great playing off the ball. When he was at Louisville I also seem to remember rumors of him being a bit odd or not getting along with teammates or something but I don't remember the specifics.
I'm not sure this describes Williams. You're right in that he's probably not good enough to run an offense through, but that's not what he needs in order to look good. He's probably best suited in an up tempo ball movement centric offense like the Wolves are angling towards. That way he can take advantage of seams that open up in the defense and broken court situations rather than be forced to create all on his lonesome, where he hasn't always been effective.
He's played off the ball a fair amount, in NJ and at Louisville, this summer has really been the first time he's been put in the "give him the ball and get out of his way" role. He's not a PG or a wing scorer with a varied scoring repertoire, he's more of an unselfish, athletic slasher with good court vision. More a nice cog than someone who has to have everything run through him.
There wasn't much in terms of not getting along with teammates at Louisville. He was seen as an odd duck, walking around with a pink hello kitty backpack (or powerpuff girls, can't remember the specifics other than it was something more likely to be seen on a 12 year old girl) and a willingness to play to the cameras/announcers. Then shortly before the draft teams were supposedly worried about the news he had a couple kids.

I agree that under normal circumstances I'd be more skeptical of an Al deal where Williams was the centerpiece, but if Kahn's dead set on dealing the big guy, Williams is one of the few potentially gettable wings that I'd like to see involved.
