Paul Heyman in TNA....

Post#1 » by CapeCrusader » Fri Jun 25, 2010 10:37 pm

In an effort to court Paul Heyman, Spike TV officials have given the company a green light on going hardcore in the ring. The current plan is to bring Paul Heyman in and officially replace Vince Russo. While Heyman will work on the creative end, Bischoff will be in charge of production and the business direction of the company, and Hogan will be the company ambassador – the one doing the media appearances and so forth.

I made a thread not too long ago mentioning changes in TNA and mentioned Heyman. But things died down and seem to be up again, so discuss...

I gotta give some credit to Russo, cuz the product out now isn't terrible....not great either but not terrible in my books.

The big problem I have is that one a day a wrestler is a face then a heel and then he switches back to a face or vice versa. Guys getting pushes that come out of no where like Lethal. I like Lethal, but they barely had him on tv and all of a sudden he gets this push. Personally I think its stupid to give Lethal this type of push right now, when they bound him not good enough to win an X division title.

Rob Terry one guy i'm high up on...mainly cuz of his size and I believe with hard work can be a force like past wrestler with his style (mainly Batista). But I haven't seen this guy on tv for a while and he didn't defend the title in the last PPV.

I know if Heyman comes along then big things will happen for sure. Storylines will be better and ratings will go up.

The constant face and heel turns have a lot to do with TNA's fans. Because its all smart fans they cheer guys like Pope and Anderson and when 2/3 of the fans are cheering for the heels no matter what they do you kind of have to cheer them.

I don't mind Lethal getting the push he's getting because its Lethal. This is a guy who has the complete package and when he wasn't being used for months, I thought he was severely underutilized. If you're doing the right thing, I'm willing to overlook that the push kind of came out of nowhere.

If Heyman comes in it won't be for more of the same from his past, he has a creative mind and will take the business in another direction. Probably more reality based like ultimate fighter, I don't think TNA will truly give him the freedom to do what he wants, maybe storyline wise but he probably would want to change the whole look of the company (sets, tv production style, etc.)

^ Pretty sure he's only brought in for creative purposes and he's pretty much willing to come in as long as Russo is out, which to me is killing two birds with one stone.

This is cool news, has it happened yet? I'd probably start following wrestling again if Heyman was involved with TNA's creative process. Guy was the mastermind behind the best shows I've ever seen.

No just serious negotiations right now between the two parties.

I won't be watching since it's TNA, but for the sake of wrestling fans I hope he doesn't have the women fighting each other what seems to be every other week. It could get very repetitive after a while. It's my one major gripe I had with Heyman.

Not that I don't like some of the stuff TNA is putting out there right now...but they have killed the two divisions that were one of their strong suits in the X Division and the Womens Divison.

Good thing Tara signed back, hopefully they can bring Kong and Mickie James in too.

As far as the X Division, they are missing a couple guys that made it famous...Christopher Daniels and Petey Williams. Doug Williams as champ in that division sucks!!

Heyman will be the real savior

^They were in quick negotiations with her after her contract was up and couldn't get anything done till around the time she lost that stipulation match against Madison Rayne. So right now they are trying to find a way to bring her back in some type of angle of some sort.

After UFC 116 they talked to Heyman about Brock...The fight....TNA and other things...

He starts getting into things half way point talking about wrestling...overall it was a good interview.

You do recall ECW going bankrupt, correct? It's amazing how overrated some people can be when they've had limited success.

I think anyone would agree, including probably Heyman, that he should be kept away from the financial aspect of the company with a 10 foot stick. Financially, TNA is actually doing not too bad. Dixie Carter seems to have that area down pretty well.

I understand why TNA is hesitant to give Heyman what he wants. With his demands, if he's not able to be successful it basically kills the company with everything they will have invested in Heyman. Even if they are successful, they won't necessarily reap the same rewards because Heyman is going to get such a significant cut of the company.

While I agree Heyman would make a positive difference to the company, he makes a good point as to why he might not be so great for it. He says that Vince is too old and doesn't know what young people are looking for, which I think is a brilliant explanation for the banal nonsense we see every week.

I don't think the industry needs a 44 year old Paul Heyman, I think it needs a 25 year old Paul Heyman. It needs someone young and creative who doesn't have these preconceived notions of what 'sports entertainment' is. It doesn't need Jim Cornette or Vince Russo or Eric Bischoff or whoever else excites the wrestling community. It needs young, creative people, whether those people come from wrestling or not.
