I'll admit I don't know anything about Gibson. Maybe someone can comment on his potential value. As far as the rest of the deal goes it's basically Iggy for Deng. A couple of years ago I would've called that a wash but now I'm not so sure...in fact I think I'd rather keep Igoudala.

I like Taj a little but I really am not a fan of deng. Doesn't help our 3pt shooting at all and is a worse defender.
They say an analytics man doesn't have a heart, but I ran the numbers and nothing can be further from the truth - Sam Hinkie probably

Deng is a better 'scorer' from the SF spot butyou do take a step back defensively. Interesting offer.

Isn't Deng nearly 10% better from three than Iguodala?Sixersftw wrote:I like Taj a little but I really am not a fan of deng. Doesn't help our 3pt shooting at all and is a worse defender.

And Al Horford is nearly 70% better from three than Iguodala, doesn't mean he's a threat.

How does Deng play off the ball? Might be something to revisit if Turner and Iguodala don't work out.

Re: The Sixerfan1976 Off-Season Thread (Update: Page 18)
This is actually pretty funny to me because about a week or so ago, I suggested the same thing with a comparison of how Deng's and Iguodala's stats were comparable but that Chicago would need to send a big man prospect and sweetener to balance out Deng's injury risk (which is why I thought it would need to be a 3 team transaction). If their message board is any indication, their fans seem to think Iggy can play well with Rose (God bless them, I don't agree).
I happen to like Taj Gibson as a lunch pail big who would get rebounds and garbabe points with hustle plays. I have always liked Deng's game though because he has deceptive length, a nice mid-range game and is a decent ball-handler. Oddly enough, and this may be greedy, but I wish they could do this deal with Jason Smith because I want to keep our veteran expiring contracts for trade deadline transactions. However if they offer a lottery protected No. 1, then bye-bye Willie.
Nice to Ed taking calls from his free agency frenzy nap.

Sounded like we would send Iguodala and maybe Kapono or Green depending on what the pick was.
As of now, we continue to maintain that we will not be moving Iguodala.
That is a good deal in my opinion. Taj Gibson is really the steal in all of that because I really like him as a junk yard power forward. He is going to be a good one at that position defensively and rebound wise. He can also play the center. Just a real physical forward and at 6'9 can bang with most of the bigs in the league. Luol Deng would be a good scorer for us off the ball and this would allow Turner to settle in as the primary ball handler with Holiday. It would also open up a fair competition between Deng and Young for a starting forward spot. Taj Gibson is the draw in all this though. If we were to get him Speights would be in trouble for minutes with Collins coaching here. Gibson is a Collins type of player.

Yes but his attempt numbers are all over the place. He only made 31 i think last year. Understanding your limitations is good but If we are going to give up the player that is better in almost every other category I want a legitimate threat from outside. One season he attempted 7 3pters (full 82 games).
Now from midrange he is money. If you subscribe to theory that we just need better shooters and not necessarily 3pt shooters, he is your man.

I live in the Chicago area. Deng has been crucified for his lousy defense during the playoffs. Previously I never though of him as a bad defender- but lousy defense and being brittle is the rap on him.

Deng is pretty injury prone right?

Everyone seems more injury prone the Andre but yes he is fairly brittle.

That does nothing for me, particularly when the pick is conditional. Not really sure Philly needs another 6'9" PF either. If Philly is going to trade Iguodala, I would hope for something more. Not to mention, I don't think they even get any kind of payroll relief, do they? Doesn't Deng make similar money to Iguodala?

I'll pass, unless we get a bona fide game changer I wouldn't move Iggy. At this point I would just rather move some of the dead weight on the bench and see how the rest of the roster plays out during the season.

I wanted the 76ers to trade for Anthony Randolph, but we did not have what GS wanted.

Re: The Sixerfan1976 Off-Season Thread (Update: Page 18)
Unless there is a star player who literally starts torching the bridges on his way out of town the way that Barkley did here before the Phoenix trade, getting that type of value is not happening with Iguodala. I repeat - we are not getting a star player under the age of 33 for Iguodala unless he is in a contract dispute or has just spit on the owner's daughter. So the alternative is whether you could spread his value over several pieces which is what this trade would be about.
I do think there will be a run on swingmen now that LBJ has decided, but since we are not looking to just dump him for a TPE, it limits our options. I like Collins' approach of having competition throughout the roster and this is one example of providing that.

hey man when you can add size you just gotta do it.....even if there's no size added. It keeps you ahead of the curve. What curve? The curve to keep your job of course.

I rather have a TPE than Deng.
Sixers get:
Taj Gibson
Chicago 1st
Utah/Cle 1st
Jazz/Cavs get:
Luol Deng
Chicago gets:
Andre Iguodala
this allows us to move Thaddeus back to SF and clear up the log jam at PF. IF Thad fails at SF we can work out something like Kapono and Green expiring for Prince or Rip type player.

Re: The Sixerfan1976 Off-Season Thread (Update: Page 18)
I would much rather wait and see if a true, starting quality big man can be had for Iggy and move Thad to the three.
Deng's contract if almost as bad as Iggy's, worse really when you consider how much he gets paid on a games played basis, and he doesn't make us a better three point shooting team while sacrificing defense. It feels like a lateral move at beast that can be made later if we find that Iggy doesn't fit with Turner and Jrue.
Gibson is a nice piece and a conditional pick in next year's very weak looking draft is not exciting, but is an asset. I would consider this deal, but not make it now.

Re: The Sixerfan1976 Off-Season Thread (Update: Page 18)
How does Deng play off the ball? Didn't watch a lot of Bulls games so I wouldn't now. I'm guessing he doesn't need the ball in his hand just basing off college because he played PF. If he does play off the ball, then I would definitely be enticed by it. He also is younger by a year.
I like Taj Gibson. Doug Collins type player as well. Bring your lunch pal and go to work.
Add in a 1st Round Pick, sounds very good.
So the Bulls have offered this, correct SF76? I would do it.
