McCarthy gets 5 year deal...

Post#1 » by JHSFIVE » Tue Feb 5, 2008 8:58 pm

As expected...

TUESDAY, Feb. 5, 2008, 2:52 p.m.

Packers' McCarthy signs 5-year deal
Packers head coach Mike McCarthy signed a five-year contract today that runs through the 2012 season.

McCarthy, the franchise's 14th head coach, recently completed one of the most successful seasons in club history. The 2007 Green Bay Packers tied a franchise record with 13 regular-season wins on their way to securing the NFC North Division championship and a first-round bye in the playoffs.

McCarthy became the first Packers coach since Vince Lombardi to take his team to a championship game in his second season, guiding the league's youngest club to an appearance in the NFC Championship Game. For his efforts, he was honored by the NFL Alumni and Motorola as the 2007 NFL Coach of the Year.

Why did we hire the offensive Coordinator from one of the worst offenses in the league in San Fran over Jim Bates?

You gotta learn how to use the green font or someone might take a comment like that seriously and think your talking out of your ass.

Anytime you lock up one of the best (young) coaches in the NFL for 5 more years its pretty awesome news.

I don't know if theres one coach in the entire league i'd trade MM for.

I'm a big fan of McCarthy also, but i do wish he'd hire someone more creative to run our defense. McCarthy IMO did a great job in maximizing the talent he had to work with on offense, i can't say i feel the same about Sanders and what he got from the talent on defense.

I'm just curious, does any know when green font start to become popular on the internet? I kinda liked it before when you could use sarcasm without having to use a green font. It just was more fun that way. It was always funny to see the reactions people without common sense would make when someone made an obvious sarcastic remark and they didn't understand the sarcasm. Now I get my balls ripped off by some posters on these message boards unless I use a green font to make it obvious when I make a sarcastic remark.

Good, good. I wish this would be the first we'd heard of it, because I still don't know why the hell it would have been any topic during Giants week, but I don't blame that for losing the game.

It's been fun being able to believe we have a coach who can make a good gameplan that gives us a shot (minus a few games), I missed that a lot with Sherman. I agree with Duderino about the defense, hopefully McC has luck and preparation going his way with whatever he decides about that, zone blocking, sticking to the run when you need to, and the other question marks.

One thing McCarthy is, is loyal (sometimes to a fault). Kurt Shottenheimer is regarded as a horrible coach but McCarthy has always felt he owed Marty for helping him with his career so he gives Kurt a paycheck.

As much as I think we can, and should, upgrade our DC, I can't see McCarthy making a move after a 13-3 season.

Good for McCarthy, he definitely deserved it. I just hope his loyalties don't hamstring us in the future. If an opportunity comes around to upgrade his staff, I hope he takes it.

I don't do it. Sarcasm loses its luster when you lead into it by exclaiming "Hey everybody, I'm being sarcastic now!"

McCarthy locked up for the next half decade. One less distraction. I like it.

Its a good move. Mc makes goods adjustments as a coach during the season. The NFC Championship should have been ours, but anyway, Mc is a coach that makes his point clear to his players and sticks to the plan of action until someone alters his actions. He is going to be great in Green Bay. Im glad we took care of this before the offseason hit. Now lets get the player or players that put us over the top.
