Do the veteran minimum count for the 58mil cap?

Jones buyout really sucks. It's a shame Riley couldn't of had a team option for this year or else they'd be able to offer him around 5 million.

They do count against the cap, here's the thing though... You can sign a player to a veteran's minimum contract even if you're over the salary cap.

So it makes sense for the Heat to first use all of their cap space and to then sign players to the veteran's minimum (hope that made sense).

Jones buyout is only 1.5M...that's presumably if Miami gave the whole buyout at once...money now better than money later

Yeah weird I know, but you can double-check Larry Coon's CBA guide if you don't believe me.

edit1: Whoops I have to update Jones' buyout numbers...
edit2: And if Miller's contract is for $25 million not $30 million I have that wrong too...

I really am impressed with Riley's GM'ing this is amazing cap management.

yes, i read that Miller maybe willing to accept 25M instead but i won't change it until later

I thought I read somewhere that Mike Miller's deal starts at 4.4 million?

So basically they don't count if you sing them after you spent your salary cap?

the veteran's min also known as the minimum salary exception can be used as many times as you like

1.) I think all 3 of the guys have an ETO after 4 years. Is it likely that they would use this option?
2.) Do we have their contracts on our books for 6 years?

Thanks!

If i'm not mistakes options can only be placed 1 year before the end of a contract.

Options can only be placed one year before the end of the contract but ETO can actually be placed after 4 years on a 6 year deal.

None of these guys would opt out anyway because we can (under the current CBA) give them extensions after year 3. Not sure what will be in the new CBA but that's what will determine what happens down the road ...

Just curious, where did you get these numbers from?

Are these the official numbers, because if they are just somebody's estimates then they make no sense unless Lebron and Bosh signed a contract with 9.31% raises (very random number).

Miller needs to get some endorsements ASAP. Taco Bell, I'm looking at you to place the guy in your next Super Bowl ad.

Contract raises are based off the first year salary so if Bosh and Lebron are making $110 million over 6 years as Chad Ford reported:

Year 1: $14.5

$14.5 x 10.5% = $1.5

Year 2: $14 .5 + $1.5 = 16
Year 3: $16 + $1.5 =$17.5
Year 4: $17.5 + $1.5 = $19
Year 5: $19 + $1.5 = $20.5
Year 6: $20.5 + $1.5 = $22

Summary:
Year 1: $14.5
Year 2: $16
Year 3: $17.5
Year 4: $19
Year 5: $20.5
Year 6: $22

Total: $110 million

Thanks man, I was applying 10.5% compound raises to the salary each year vs. previous year.

I guess that makes sense then.

If Wade, Lebron, or Bosh re-signed with their own team the most they could have gotten would have been: $123.7 million over 6 years ($98.8 over 5 years).

If they signed with another team and there was no sign-and-trade agreement the most they could have gotten would have been: $94.7 million over 5 years.

With the deals Lebron and Bosh did sign (Wade's is reportedly a little bit lower) they will make roughly $110 million over 6 years ($87.9 over 5 years).

Why aren't/wouldn't the Heat go into the luxury tax and get a better supporting cast?

we really cant. We could only do what the cap allows

we will go over the cap to get minimum guys

now next year and beyond, when these deals increase 10.5%, and we add an mle guy to the fold, we will be well into the luxury tax and will be every year as the contracts go higher.

Because we can't.
