Nets sign Johan Petro

Post#1 » by jeff1624 » Sat Jul 10, 2010 2:52 pm

WojYahooNBA Center Johan Petro has reached agreement on a three year, $10 million deal with New Jersey, league sources tell Y!.

Al_Iannazzone Johan Petro getting three years and $10 million from the Nets.

Al_Iannazzone For the Nets, it's about putting together a roster now. Outlaw, Morrow, Petro fill needs. Still a letdown from James and whomever.

Al_Iannazzone Next two things for the Nets before Thorn leaves next week is a power forward and president/GM

backup center Im assuming...I guess Im ok with this although I would have preferred Humphries fill the role with his 1 year contract. Does anything think Petro has any upside that's worth giving him 3 years?

With Favors, Brook, Petro, James, and another PF to-be-acquired where does that leave the Hump? Considering his price now I could see him as a small time trade chip. Maybe for Morrow to get them to not match the contract?

WTF.

Guy should be making the minimum... He's basically Diop 2.0 with slightly better hands and worse defense, do you guys remember how terrible Diop was for the Nets?

Damn.

remember him from Seattle, and being a first round draft pick out of france...#25, not bad...needs more PT...

He was probably getting similar money overseas...but I agree it should be less...

My main problem is that he's a likely candidate to get buried on the bench and never see significant minutes.

There might be a team out there where 3 years $10 million isn't too big of an overpayment but come on Thorn...

Not feeling this at all! Save the cap room for future deals.

I would debate that... Then I saw that Marcus Williams sig.

I'm on the Luis Scola bandwagon. Teach Favors those fancy low-post moves.

I dont see him getting burried on the bench making that money...but of course, its possible...I agree its too much money, but Avery must of wanted him, and he probably had more on the table elsewhere, probably overseas...

we shall see...

Call it a gut feeling JJ, but Petro seems like one of those players who will just inevitably fall out of favor with Avery Johnson.

I'm sure Avery was all for the signing now but there's just this part of me telling me that the honeymoon won't last... :-?

anything is possible...as much as this deal is on the high side...I'm all for giving Petro a shot, while letting Josh walk...

Its a fresh look at a possible back up center...again Avery's interest...He can eat crow down the line on this one, if it goes that way...but the kid is still young...
