Perkins, Gortat, Chandler?
What are the chances we might be able to get either of these guys with any of our TPEs? Would we give up our Memphis pick to make it happen??
To be honest, I think all we really need right now is a good center and a solid backup PG. I think with Matthews and Hayward along with CJ and AK (and maybe Brewer) we should be OK at the wings. Millsap and AK can take care of the 4 spot OK and when Memo comes back, he can also play good minutes at the 4. The thing lacking is really at C as we only have Koufus and Fes. They are big and long, but not as good to really keep us in the top of the west. Are some of these even possible?

I'd take Gortat out of that 3 considering the price.

But would Orlando do it?

I think we need a big that can defend, but we also need a second scorer even more than that.

I think they want value for him rather than a TPE, so we have no chance.

To be honest, I don't worry about scoring that much. Our system allows us to get points, that's why we haven't really struggled as much when Boozer has been out the recent years, and if our interior defense improves, it will help our offense that much more because it will allow us to get to te open court with AK and DWill, etc. What we really need is a starting center and a backup PG (and AK to not get injured ever again). That's all IMO.
I guess my question is, what teams need to clear salary and have a capable staring defensive center that they'd be willing to deal?

Well I think youre wrong...only going out and adding a stiff like the ones you mentioned does not help us. We need to add some offensive punch, we just lost 2 guys who could score.

And what do you have in mind then??
Remember we have added Hayward who has a high BBIQ and should really help at the very least, on offense. And when Okur returns, our offense will also get a boost. And I don't consider either of the guys mentioned a stiff either. Gortat is at worst, serviceable (much better than either Koufus or Fes on both sides) and Perkins and Chandler are anything but stiffs.
If we keep Mathews (which I fully believe we will), we'll setup like this come October:
DWill/???/Price
Mathews/Miles
Miles/AK/Hayward
Millsap/AK
??????/Fes/Koufus
The only big gaps on that chart being starting C and backup PG (Unless we keep going with Price as backup and with a center rotation of Fes and Koufus which would be disaster IMO)

Maybe a better question is which teams are deep in lux tax territory wanting to dump salary? As those are IMO the only possible teams for us to deal with with our TPEs.

I don't think Boston is going to be dealing Perkins, and I don't think he'd wanna come here either. I think out of those 3, the highest probability of landing someone would be Gortat.

I don't think the Jazz can get any of Perkins, Gortat or Chandler.
If you go thru salary listings, you will realize there's no many feasible chances out there.
Barring some magic from KOC, this next will be a long season...

Re: Perkins, Gortat, Chandler?
Perkins is a big "no" from Boston. The Celtics just shelled out big cash to keep their core together; they're not giving their starting centre away for free.
Gortat is probably a "no" unless he starts being really disruptive in Orlando.
Chandler is the most likely, but even though I like him personally a lot of teams keep being disappointed in him.
Let's also not forget that Toronto, Cleveland and Phoenix also have big TPEs...and fewer luxury tax concerns about using them. For teams who want to dump, we're not the only fish in the sea, here.

I think our offense will be just fine, I think what we need, desparately, is length.
Gortat can score a little bit though. He'd be a great addition.

Re: Perkins, Gortat, Chandler?
Wanting a big that can defend AND score? You know there is a 13m limit on who we could possibly get, right? Name how many bigs in this league fit that. There aren't very many, and the teams who have them are going to keep a tight grip on them.
The thing I really like about Gortat is that he is tall, can defend, and still has some possible upside with increased playing time, and has a very attractive contract for a big that could really turn us around. He may not be Gasol, but he could be just what we need. I would do it in a heartbeat if Orlando would.

Word is, South Beach is ecstatic that they
won't be seeing Millsaps talents again this season...

That's what I fear right now. So we should just get ready to see a C rotation of Fes and Koufos and Price as backup.

With the Bulls making an offer to Restricted free agent JJ Redick of 3/$20M with it be front loaded, and the Magic already a tax payer I would be less surprised if they took our Harpring TPE and gave us Gortat.
That is if the Jazz want to do it.
This will enable them to keep Reddick.

Who said it had to be a big? I still think our biggest overall need is a dynamic scoring wing, something we have NEVER had. It doesnt have to be Kobe or Lebron, but someone just a level below that can take some pressure off Deron on the outside. I also think we should try and get a big who can defend, but I just dont think thats the biggest need in taking the next step.

I wonder if they'd do if for our Euro + Mem pick. I think that might get their attention.

I love how everybody on here wants to have their cake and eat it too. So many of you are unrealistic about big men on here. It seems like their is so much nitpicking and nobody is ever prefect enough. I have news for you, their isn't really a prefect big man out there beside maybe Pau Gasol but even him you can find flaws with.
