If you're right JF, we will really see how good Deron really is. He won't have Boozer to dump passes to for instant assists, and will be shouldering most of the load. We will find out if he is truly a top 10 player and best PG, or just really really good.

I thought Okur signed a 2 year deal that starts this year.

We'd be looking at a lotto pick and maybe a Memphis pick, a big tpe, a large expiring in Okur, and some cap room to work with. Quite a bit actually.

If we go out and sign someone just to sign a body we could really mess up our ability to bring in a quality free agent next year.

The best course of action this year is probably to go with youth and take some lumps. That'd mean lots of minutes for Fes and Kufos. If the kids play hard, I could live with that. I know lots of folks would consider that a travesty, but, I could handle a rebuilding year.

KOC will have to be careful about mortgaging the future this season IMHO.

I think this season really hangs in the balance of AK's health to be honest. If he's 100% we'll be at least a good team (2004 anyone?).

+1. Had he been healthy all of last year, we would have been the 2nd seed for sure.

Instead they are collecting some future assets here and there (the Memphis pick, some TPEs that can be used as late as next year). I wouldn't expect a big push for contention this year, although of course it'd be nice :D

Yeah, I'm thinking along the same lines, and I'm not too unhappy about it either.

The Jazz were never willing to really add to the pieces and address weaknesses, so the only other course of action is to build a more solid foundation.

I would love to see the Jazz come up with a new template though. I want to see this team play some defense, and I am more than willing to sacrifice some Booze to do so.

shamsports.com. Storytellerscontracts.com is pretty good too, although the spreadsheet format is not for everyone.

I use this. It's very good, the only complaint I have is that I can't find a key for the color codes.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Every year it's doom and gloom from Jazz fans, and every year the Jazz play fairly well.

The nice thing about the Jazz is that their system will let them win a good amount of games and will usually get them into the playoffs, or pretty damn close to it. The bad thing is that it doesn't seem to translate too well deep into the playoffs, although that's also just getting shorted talent wise.

I don't see what the big effin deal is.

The Jazz don't want to trade to take on contracts they dont want. They aren't going to take the approach that a lot of other teams are taking and just overpay players just to get them on your team. The Jazz see the new CBA coming up and player salaries coming down. Why do you think so many players are signing extensions and huge deals now? The Jazz see Boozers contract off the books and next year when AK's contract is off the books and they aren't going to add any pieces and overpay anybody that will get in the way of their chance to add some pieces next summer.

At the end of the day, the Jazz will be back to being underdogs and the light and talk will be off of them, which is actually the time I think the Jazz play their best basketball. I think with Boozer gone, our team will be closer and have better chemistry and will relish in the underdog role.

Any Jazz fan will know that you can never count out the Utah Jazz, especially when they are the underdogs. I'm excited. Yeah I wish we had some more pieces, but I understand our reluctance to take on a stupid contract via sign and trade. This is a year where we'll actually get to see what each and every one of our players are made of because everyone will need to step up.

Jazz are sitting around while every day another good free agent is off the board. They are going to do nothing. I looks like what we currently see we will currently have, Mathews will be gone, but we pick up our draft picks and mabey derons big man buddy from the review.

There isn't a lot that the Jazz can do right now in the FA market until they sign Mathews or decide to let him walk.

The only thing that bothers me is if the FO expected an offer about the MLE was going to come for Matthews they should have already signed him if that is their desire. If not going to sign him they could have been talking to anybody and chosen who they wanted not who is left.

Williams went into the offseason believing his injured right wrist might keep him from playing, but he cited Saturday the increased load he expects to shoulder during the Jazz’s season without Carlos Boozer and Kyle Korver.

“It’s just a long commitment this summer,” Williams said. “Right when you’re getting back from that, you’ve got to jump right into the season and that’s tough. Especially with the guys we lost, I think I’m going to have to do a lot more this season.”

Sometimes you have to destroy before you can rebuild. This small rebuilding process is long overdue. It's just a shame that guys like Korver and Matthews are leaving instead of guys like Okur and AK with their toxic contracts.

I'm dissapointed that Houston hasn't made a move yet but I must say that watching Boozer & Korver go while Matthews being signed to a ridiculous offer sheet has made me smile a bit.

No hard feelings though. With D-Will, Millsap, and Sloan the Jazz will still be in the playoff hunt.
