just heard on sportscenter
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:

"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

Been reading a lot of comments on ESPN and the Post, and the biggest complaint: he's not a big name. Unbelievable. For once, Snyder listened to his fanbase and didn't hire Fassel. They hired someone who Matt Hasselbeck himself said should be a head coach in this league.

Gutsy move. I like it.

Good move. We did this same thing when we hired Joe Gibbs in the 80's. Zorn is a players coach, who did a great job with Batch in Detroit and Hassleback in Seattle. WCO head coaches have had good success in the NFL and Zorn should follow nicely.

Thank god its not Fassell. I was on the verge of screwing the NFL if we hired that mofo.

I think it's a bold move borne out of desperation and a complete lack of any plan by Dan Snyder.

There was no way they were going to lure any coach with any mojo at all, nobody with any experience--nobody is stupid enough to take that job with all the crap that comes with it.

I like Jim Zorn and I think he's got an interesting offensive mind. Back when he played I always admired his style and ability to make things happen without a lot of talent around him. Of course now he has to go out and hire an OC--another job that nobody with any experience or real qualifications is going to touch.

I don't get why so many people didn't want Jim Fassel :dontknow:
He's a proven coach who lots of Giants credited for making them better players. Sure he's a little vanilla, but you don't get any blander than Joe Gibbs and he's revered by the Skins faithful. IMO he was the best candidate out there of any who are looking (i.e. not Cowher or Billick).

Your trying to support this move and you bring up Charlie Batch in Detroit as your evidence? Damn, that's scraping the bottom of the barrel...

Players quit on Fassel, had an awful year in Baltimore, even though it wasn't his fault.

I dunno...bring some flesh blood in. If he takes this team to the playoffs, the nobody is going to say a peep.

Iceness - if you don't mind me asking, would you know what the general consensus is on this hire?

They did quit on him at the end in NY, but they knew he was a lame duck. Maybe some chicken/egg there, I dunno. Glad to see you nailed the BAL situation correctly.

Zorn is indeed well respected around the league, but nobody I've talked to thought he was ready for this. He's never called plays, he's never even been a coordinator. People like him and want to see him do well, but this hire is generally seen as a big reach brought on by front office incompetence. It had better work out, because Snyder is going to have increasing trouble finding people willing to take his money.

Under the radar, but they just shuffled their scouting department too--Vinny Cerrato consolidated scouting power, and a lot of their long-time scouts are ready to leave. Some of them have been there since before Gibbs' 1st term.
