One final Beasley/Haslem thread
So with the knowledge that the players taking paycuts is what allowed us to sign Haslem, in effect, it works both ways. So we could have kept Beasley over Haslem, in other words (if we are signing Haslem for around 4 or 5 million like reported).
If you guys had the choice, what would you have done? Traded Beasley for a 2nd and re-signed Udonis, or kept Beasley?

Re: One final Beasley/Haslem thread
In my heart...I would obviously keep Beasley.
But in this championship team, now's the actual time that I would prefer Haslem in a Beas vs. UD debate. we need Haslem WAY more and Beasley's just not getting it done w/ LeBron freaking James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade around him. I have no question that's the case.
Not to mention I want the kid off this team so he can actually get a fresh new start, blossom somewhere else and not ruin the kid's future by pairing him w/ 3 superstuds. It's just too much for him to fit in the picture.
Overall....the parting w/ Beas is good for both sides, IMO.

Re: One final Beasley/Haslem thread
I voted for Beas, simply cos I'm a Beasley fan.
In my mind he can pay 2 positions, UD can play 1. Nothing stopping UD from taking a 1 year pay cut then getting paid. We're going to rely on vets (min & MLE) & striking 2nd round/undrafted gold for the next 6 years. If Beas doesn't mesh with the big 3 he can either be traded by the deadline or get us another played via S&T next year.
Beas is undeniable talent & would be a great 6th man, but UD fits more organically with the big 3 (& will be a more popular choice with fans)

Both for Beasley's sake and the team's sake, I'd choose Haslem. I really want Beasley to succeed, so I hope he does well on another team. Also, Haslem's a rock-solid championship backup PF. He'd be great frontcourt depth.

LoL! Another Beas. thread.
Anyhow, Beas. in Miami just was not going to work and the Heat need vets moreso than younger players now so Haslem is the better choice. However, Beas. is the better player.

Beasley is too unreliable. We know what we are getting with Haslem every night.

Re: One final Beasley/Haslem thread
Beasley he is only 21,, he could back the SF and PF position and has much more upside than Haslem, but Haslem fits better with this team.

Re: One final Beasley/Haslem thread
I'd take UD any day, just cuz I'm tired of the fans of Beasley backing the guy up so much. Granted, I saw improvement in the guy, but I didn't see leadership, professionalism, determination, nor a desire to win in the guy. He just kind of went out there on the court and did his thing, not really thinking and then BAM he would screw up and Wade would point toward his head and say "think." That is the memory I'll have of the guy. Not that he was a team cancer like Shaq, not that he was a lost cause like Derrick Coleman, but that he just doesn't have what it takes to win games. Our franchise is better off without Beasley even if UD leaves.

I'd take Beas. The guy is 21, and he was already better then Haslem(maybe minus rebounding). I think his ceiling is much higher. I expect him to explode in Minnesota.

Re: One final Beasley/Haslem thread
I've always cast my lot with Beasley in this pairing and do so again. It's not even close. However, knowing how we run things, better use of Michael's talent is made elsewhere.
It'd be nice entertaining the thought of Beas' continued growth at 21, staggered behind the Trio at 28, 26 and 25, to sort of making sure that the party kept going down the line once Father Time does his thing, but I don't believe he wouldn't have received the space needed for him to be what he can be.

Beasley. I don't care about Haslem's "grit" or hustle". His game is so limited.

UD embodies the culture of this team and organization. Riley loves him like a freakin son. And Wade loves him like a brother. And he compliments our superstar studded trio to a tee. Anyone saying Beasley is simply not too bright.
And this is coming from someone who was extremly high on Beasley's skillset coming out of K-State. But the guy was bust for us. He's like a freaking 14 year old traped in a man's body. Why can't people just except it?

Haslem.
Beasley's not going to be "the man" like he wants to be on this team and being a fourth option would **** up his psyche even more than being a 2nd option has the last two seasons. It was time for him to move on. Haslem is going to be one of our captains and leaders and give quality PF/C minutes. He's proven himself on the championship stage in '06, we know we can count on him in June.

Re: One final Beasley/Haslem thread
Haslem for me. As I posted in another thread, what he brings to the table goes far beyond the numbers he puts up. I recognize the talent of Michal Beasley, but I don't think Michael himself recognizes it and therein lies the problem.
What sets players apart in this league is their mentality: sharpness, awareness, toughness, intelligence, diligence, dedication, determination, understanding, maturity, motivation. These are all adjectives I can use to describe Udonis Haslem, but I cannot do the same for Michael Beasley.
Having more years of Spoelstra having to deal with "Ok, what situations can I put Michael in? Should I play him in crunch time? At SF? At PF? How many minutes can I give him to keep him happy? When can I pull him so that I don't shatter his confidence?" is no good. It is detrimental to our team. It takes away from the focus required by a coach to win games.
In the end, Haslem is the more reliable guy, one that you don't have to worry about, one that brings extra character, extra grit, and extra leadership into the huddle. He clearly gets my vote.

for me... Beasley he's only 21, would've been great off the bench.
for the team... Haslem, consistent, knows his role, already a champion. Beasley wouldn't fit in this team he won't get any opportunity to develop, so he's better off somewhere else.

It's interesting that for the most part when talking about UD and what he brings is the equivalent of saying a girl has a good personality. Wade took a pay cut for UD, the same UD that Pat has tried to trade repeatedly. In the end it doesn't matter since we have Wade Bosh and Lebron. Just a wasted opportunity with Beasley in preference of the vet who shot .35%

when did Riley repeatedly try to trade UD? Don't be revisionist.

By the way, let's stop acting like giving up Beasley had to be done just to retain Haslem. We needed to get Beas's 5 mil off the books to be able to land Mike Miller AND Haslem.

The reports had Pat offering UD In trades for Amare and for Boozer last off season.
