Now we're talking reality. Hadaddi is one player I think Memphis would consider trading if something that made sense came back in return. I haven't looked but I think he has this coming season at around $1.8mil and maybe a team option for the second year but I'm not sure.

Any of us that's watched him knows that he can play in this league but is limited by his lack of a good understanding of the details that seperate a decent big man from a good one. In his international career he has shown he can be a dominating player against others that also haven't had a good upbringing in a highly competitive surrounding. But he does have the physical tools to contribute.

His worth? To Memphis it would probably be in the area of cap relief, with perhaps a simple pick involved, although he is decent insurance as the end of the bench big man. But when I just read this morning that Johan Petro has reportedly signed a $10mil deal with New Jersey I have to wonder. I think Haddadi is on the same level.

We're not - in what you offered at least...

I tried a trade and think it works. Here's the trade checker #: Trade ID #5604031

Chicago send out Luol Deng + 1st rounder and right to swap first round pick to Memphis
Chicago receives OJ Mayo and Joel Pryzbilla

Memphis sends out OJ Mayo + Mike Conley to Portland
Memphis receives 1st rounder from Chicago, right to swap first rounders, Andre Miller and Jerryd Bayless

Portland sends out Joel Pryzbilla, Andre Miller and Jerry Bayless
Portland receives Mike Conley and Luol Deng

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Just because you can make the numbers work in the trade checker doesn't mean that you can't make it not suck - horribly. Seriously, this trade mega sucks for the Grizz.

Potentially solid reserve 5. Memphis needs to move him or Thabeet. For the right offer he can be moved.

And what would be the right package for Hadaddi and Thabeet (not together but serperately) in your opinion? (just examples that you could think of)

Haddadi for a backup PG or PF...I don't think he has much more value than that.

Maybe someone like Ronnie Price or Kris Humphries?

Just wondering what Memphis fans think, but do you guys like Ellis better than Mayo.

I think both guys are pretty similar, with OJ being a better shooter, but Ellis a better slasher. Toronto needs a SG that can hit the 3 ball, so OJ would be a great fit.

If Toronto could help you guys land Ellis, would you guys part with Mayo.

We have some pieces that could probably make a deal happen.

A combination of

14.5 million TPE, Demar Derozan, Sonny Weems, 2 first rounders in 2011, Marcus Banks (5 million expiring), Marco Belinelli (2.5 million) expiring.

Brooks. :D

Sheem and Conley for Brooks, 1st round pick(s), cash.

Obviously that's assuming Grizzlies management decides to wave the white flag on Conley and Thabeet. That said, Hasheem is still a wild card at this point and I still think Conley is improving.
Any potential deal like the one above could burn the Grizzlies big time and doesn't make the Grizzlies that much better. I don't see Memphis making any more significant moves until at least the All-Star break.

Another Thabeet idea:

Send Thabeet and Carroll to Philly for Nocioni.

Why for us? Gasol/Haddadi make Thabeet expendable - Carroll makes the numbers work. Nocioni is a fave of the Grizz FO. With Z'Bo and Jaric coming off the books next year he wouldn't be a hindrance to resigning Marc and OJ. And, if he didn't work out he'd be an expiring next year. Sixers fan seem to be happy with it. Would let them roll the dice on Hasheem...

Does Cleveland have anything that you guys would want in return for Conley? West as a player or for the nonguaranteed contract? Part of our TPE? Any interest in packaging another player for Mo Williams? Mayo could handle the ball more, and Mo would help stretch the defense.

I posted in a different topic that the Grizzlies will most likely go with the starting five from last year with Conley at the point, give Mayo some time at the point, and evaluate both Henry and Vasquez, see how Tony Allen changes things defensively for them and make a decision around the trade deadline about Conley and his contract status. I don't see any changes at this stage. They are more or less set going into next season.

Conley/Mayo/Vasquez
Mayo/Allen/Henry/Young
Gay/Henry/Young/Carroll
Randolph/Arthur/Carroll
Gasol/Thabeet/Haddai

That's 13 and I expect one minimum wage combo power forward/center such as an Anthony Toliver type to round out the roster.

It seems to me that MEM and MIN might make good trading partners.

Thabeet gets a lot of disrespect, but he seems like the type of guy that Kahn seems to like. Good physical abilitythat resulted in a high draft pick, but a lot of question marks. MIN's got a longer way to go than MEM, so developing Thabeet seems like a more cost-effective move for a team that is light years from contention.

There's been some talk on the MIN boards about making offers for Xaviar Henry, and larger ones for OJ Mayo (another Kahn-type).

MIN's got lots of young pieces, including the MEM pick, Corey Brewer, Sessions, and Koufos all seem like they could be dealt.

Any ideas?

I actually don't really like Memphis and Minnesota as trade partners at this point. Memphis isn't in a position to give up the best player in a deal while taking on multiple, lesser assets, which is what Minnesota has to offer.

None of that stuff combined will get you close to Mayo. I don't think any of that is enticing enough for Memphis to give up Henry for either. Henry will be better than Brewer IMO, and Brewer is about to be up for a payday; that pick isn't going to have much value to the Grizzlies; Sessions could be had in a salary dump; and Koufos is worthless.

As asinine as this whole contract thing is, it's almost certainly going to be resolved eventually before the season starts, so I think Memphis will just hang on to Brewer.

If Mayo's on the board, then I think we'd be talking about better assets, like Kevin Love.

Well, Mike Heisley has adamantly denied that Mayo has been included in trade talks on more than one occasion. He is determined to keep the starting five together, for better or for worse, so I don't think he's going to trade OJ any time soon, unless he's blown away by an offer or for whatever reason he demands a trade.

Also, not trying to be litigious, but Kevin Love wouldn't be enough for Mayo either IMO. I personally think Mayo is a better player than Love, but that's relative. Love wouldn't be good fit here either. He really wants to be a starter, correct? He wouldn't start over Zach Randolph, so you've already got issues before he even suits up, and he isn't the kind of player that you put behind two beefy, powerful, unathletic players like Gasol and Randolph. Memphis needs an athletic, defensive-minded backup PF to backup Zach Randolph. Love doesn't give them that. He's not worth giving up Mayo for.
