Celts fan here. Shocked that we let him go, especially for such reasonable money.

He's one of the top 5 on-ball perimeter defenders in basketball, IMHO. Very fast, strong, long and absolutely tenacious. And while he's a net negative offensively (he can't really score on anything outside the paint and he's a turnover machine), he still brings more to the table than he takes off.

He'll be missed.

Don't give Alex Kennedy and his 'sources' credit...he's just passing off what The Commercial Appeal wrote a couple hours ago as his own work.

OK

Now we have a log jam at the SG/SF spots with 6 players.... Mayo, Henry, Allen, Gay, Carroll, Young.

I think the Grizz are really waiting to see Mayo at the PG this week. That may be the death nail for Conley.

I don't think that there is a "logjam" just because I don't think Young and Carroll are going to get very many minutes this year. If Young does, this means that we will say goodbye to Mayo or Conley

I'm hoping for Conley...... personally. But anything could happen.

Two implications from this move IMO.

1) Consistent minutes at PG for OJ, and
2) Young and Carroll revert to towel-waver status (thank god).

Excellent move, now we need a quality big off the bench and we're good to go.

You guys have cap space? Or is this going to be a part of the MLE?

As a Celts fan, would love a trade exception for him and hopefully with Wallace's history we would do a S&T just to generate the exception.

Besides with TA, he isn't as an explosive player anymore and that is a shame because he used to be a great finisher. He can't handle or shoot and makes dumb decisions. The less he has the ball the better...

But, BIG BUT,

This guy is an elite perimeter defender. He can guard 1s, 2s and 3s. He gave Wade, Kobe and leBron fits when he was in there.

He is mistake prone, but if you guys limit his touches on offense to fastbreak dunks and occasional slashing, he is a terrific pick up. He's a seasoned bench guy. A little stunned Boston didn't try and match.

Too bad he has had two major knee surgeries. He was raw when he came into the NBA, but before he destroyed his knee he was becoming an impossible player to guard on the perimeter off the dribble. He isn't that guy anymore, but for the price, he is an elite defender.

Yeah we do. I would like to see us put Young, Arthur, and Jaric's salary in a deal to get a backup 4. Sadly the only list of players I feel would fit that mold/trade are: Shawn Marion, Boris Diaw, Charlie V, or s&t with New York and get Al Harrington. All fit a need for us. BTW that's not in any particular order.

Jaric was bought out and is not available any more.

I never thought I would see the day. I've been a big Tony Allen fan going back to before his first knee injury. This is exactly the type of player Memphis needs. Everyone talks about his defense, which is great, but he also draws fouls at a good rate by taking the ball to the rim agressively, which ultimately gets his team to the foul line quicker each quarter.

I guess management has a bigger plan but I agree that at the moment things look confusing with so many guards, although I suppose they are looking at Henry getting time behind Gay at small forward. And Allen can bring the ball up the floor as well, at least he used to years ago. And I guess this marks the end of Ronnie Brewer in Memphis. He was agreat aquisition but a terrible decision to deal a first round pick for nothing.

I was thinking earlier why hasn't Henry signed his contract. Now with the aquisition of Tony Allen, There may just be something going on. Could they be looking at Monta Ellis again? I heard Monta purchased a home in Memphis. Something to think about.

New York renounced Harrington, they would not be able to do a sign and trade.

excellent!!! Great deal though I think we are littlebit too satcked now with wing players. We should get rid of Carrol and try to get Brewer back though I don't know if this is still possible.

Didn't see this coming. Defensively this works out for the Grizz as the reasons have already been stated for TA's case. Unfortunately we do have a logjam @ the SGs' spot plus this move ends the short Ronnie Brewer era in Memphis.

You will enjoy watching Tony Allen play. He's a great defender and a slasher on offense. He can play the point if necessary and he's very strong. He's had his share of injury problems in the past, but even so the Celtics were fools to let him go.

Celtics fan here and I think you guys got a steal! He shut down Kobe and Bron on D during this years playoffs but he is the absolute worst offensive player youll ever see. Still though his D makes him valuable to have on the court
