Sessions on the block (rumor)

Post#1 » by shrink » Sun Jul 11, 2010 10:17 pm

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=A ... buzz071110

From our friends, Adrian Wojnarowski and Marc J. Spears,

After signing Ramon Sessions(notes) to a four-year, $16 million contract a year ago, Minnesota Timberwolves general manager David Kahn is trying to unload the guard to teams able to absorb his salary, league executives told Yahoo! Sports.

“They’re basically looking for a salary dump,” said an executive with a team who spoke to Minnesota. “That won’t be easy.”

Kahn’s plan this time?

Trying to sign point guard Luke Ridnour(notes) to an identical four-year, $16 million contract, league sources said.

Still, Ridenour has shown little interest with the T’wolves, sources said, and seems willing to wait for a more compelling offer. What’s unclear is how this would affect Minnesota with Jonny Flynn(notes) as the starting point guard and the rights to Spain’s Ricky Rubio(notes), who could come to the NBA after the 2010-11 season.

Minnesota has also shown serious interest with free-agent point guard Shaun Livingston(notes), sources said

We certainly could use some veteran leadership and Sessions' trade value probably won't increase in such a limited role in an offense that doesn't really suit his strengths.

I'm not sure who would take him though. New Jersey? Cavs using West? Chicago?

Maybe this?

MIN OUT: Sessions
MIN IN: $4 mil cap space

IND OUT: Troy Murphy
IND IN: Sessions + Humphries + $4 mil TPE

NJN OUT: Humphries + $8 mil cap space
NJ IN: Murphy?

Personally, I think Sessions is worth more than raw cap space, and I'd much rather see him included in a larger deal, perhaps with IND.

Lot of negative things said by Kahn to the Pacer organization. So do you really see them agreeing on anything at this point? If they did, what would you like to get done?? Obviously need a PG, we want Flynn; however, if you want to unload Sessions and His CONTRACT, what would you take back??

Hmm... i like the idea of somehow getting Sessions to Indiana, but Murphy is probably a hard sell for NJ until every other option for their cap room is extinguished.

Maybe Foster would be more palatable in your scenario?? Thorn is always saying how they are missing a tough inside presence.

I like that. Got to make sure we don't put IND over the lux though, so maybe no Humphries?

NJN has to add some salary to get over the nba minimum.

Do you really believe anything Woj says about Kahn and the Wolves?

Well over on the general borads they say that Luke Ridnour is all but a done deal.If this goes down my man lil Jon can say it best YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.I love this pick up and now maybe we can move Sessions/Jefferson as a combo plater to someteam(Pistons,Pacers) plus Ridnour has show the ability to play SG if need be like he did at pionts last year with Jennings. Now I wounder if he would start at PG over Flynn or be a back ?

Really? We don't even have the cap space to sign him until we make another move first. That is -- assuming the Beasley trade goes trhough. :o

Yeah I think Kahn found a taker for Al + Sessions, I'm sure a deal will happen if not tomorrow then in a few days. Just my feeling.

The general board is basing it off a tweet that just misconstrues the same same yahoo article. Nothing is even close.

Don't be a debbie downer.I want Luke Ridnour on the Wolves ASAP.He's better then both Flynn and Sessions.Plus will be a good mentor to Rubio once he comes over and can even play SG a times if need be.This along with Beasley,Johnson,Webster and Pek have been real good moves this offseason.I use to hate Daved Khan like everyone else on these boards but If he pulls off the signing of Ridnour and trades Jefferson/Sessions for something like Rip,AI2,Prince or Granger I might just be in love with him :D

You may be right. Sessions and Jefferson could be combined to go for one of those $16M TPE's.

I'm not sure if we should sign Ridnour. Rubio is just one year away from coming over and Flynn will be our sixth man. I say we go the cheap route and sign a vet for the min or give a Bobby Brown type pg a chance, maybe Livingston if he accepts a cheap contract.

Livingston still has a chance to be special. I would like to get him. If you got him you could move Johnny to the 2 for a good amount of minutes.

Or you can get 2 TE's from utah for Jefferson(boozer 13.0) and sessions(harpring 6.5)

Has it really come down to all the wolves want is a TE for these guys? Also since im here; does sessions ever play the 2? I think of him as a combo guard but im not sure if he is or not.

Seems like a lot of Lux tax for you guys no?

Sessions is a pass first point guard that is a poor shooter, so basically not much of a combo guard.
