Patriots have been videotaping signals since 2000

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Sen. Arlen Specter said on Wednesday that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell told him that the New England Patriots had been spying on rival teams since 2000 when Bill Belichick took over as head coach.

Specter said he discussed the scandal involving the illegal videotaping of rival sideline signals and other issues with Goodell at a meeting that lasted nearly two hours.

After the meeting Specter told reporters he learned "that the Patriots have taped since the year 2000 when coach Belichick took over."

If true, it is a shame. After watching them play and cheering for them, I feel dirty to root for such a shameless organization. I just hope that the players did not know about it so I can at least retain some respect for them.

No, you aren't.

I'm still very confused about this whole spygate thing. Don't get why it's even illegal. Seems to me that if you can see the hand signals from the field of play then you can determine what they mean anyway. What is videotaping going to do?

i think they are also taping the coaches on the sidelines giving signals and then they match the plays run with the signals given to determine what the other team is running, or at least that is what i think they are doing

How will they determine that if they haven't studied it? Don't expect the players on the field to do process that while they are trying to run a game plan. Now if they KNOW IN ADVANCE what those signals are (even the audible signals) then the defense can audible to the appropriate play. This is something that would have been game planned throughout the week and not just some player adapting on his own during the 60 mins on the field.

Cheaters. They managed the 18-0 because players want to play in NE and will go there for cheap. So they manage to get all the good guys when in reality they've been cheating this entire team.

I don't understand how you fine Bellicheat but suspend players for using performance enhancing drugs. Any sort of cheating should result in suspension.

Are you really this stupid? They were video taping defensive signals if anything, and it was their defense that carried them to 3 SBs, not their offense. Their defense gained exactly zero benefit from any such actions. And it's not like teams don't take Polaroids of the other team's defensive signal callers every play (several in fact) and try to match it up with the particular play so they can determine the true signal used to the call the play. Bill said he misinterpreted the rule and it does seem ambiguous. I mean what's the difference if you're allowed to video tape from the stands and use it, but you can't do it from field level? Riiiight.

Furthermore Goodell determined they gained no competitive advantage whatsoever from the videos, and thusly took it upon himself to destroy them. So now there's no way to tell what was actually on them and it's his word against anyone else who is asked to testify. I think if it had been anything substantiative Bill would have been long gone. Obviously people can't just let it go though. :nonono:

Giants beat the Patriots.

Sorry, I'm kinda drunk.

Patriots kinda cheated, I don't care. I would be mad if the Pats beat the Giants so I feel you Rams, Panthers, Iggles fans.

Pats still won 3 titles.

Why is it that every single source actually within the game (players, GMs, coaches, etc) says this is no big deal at all?

Calm down Tyrone. Everything in your post discusses the best case scenerio for the Patriots. Poor Bill, how could he be so stupid to not know the rules? Defense carried the team to SuperBowl wins? I guess Tom Brady is a scrub then right?

I'd like to see where you get this "Goodell determined they gained no competitive advantage" stuff. Sounds to me your pulling half this stuff out of your rear.

Former Ram files $100 Million Lawsuit against Patriots

Post#20 » by xAIRNESSx » Fri Feb 15, 2008 11:45 pm

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- A lawsuit filed Friday by a former St. Louis Rams player and others seeks millions of dollars in damages from the alleged taping of Rams practices by the New England Patriots before the 2002 Super Bowl.

The Patriots won the game 20-17 in the Superdome.

The $100 million suit, filed on behalf of former Rams player Willie Gary in U.S. District Court in New Orleans, names the Patriots, team owner Robert Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick.
