Spurs Re-Sign Bonner

Post#1 » by pad300 » Fri Jul 9, 2010 9:37 pm

This has been confirmed on other sites as well.

Spurs have been stupid enough to resign Mr. 8% on 3's for the playoffs. For 4 Years, and at a raise.

Smart front office my candy coated ass. We just resigned a major choker, at money that suggests he will be playing significant minutes again! Damn we be STUPID.

I love Bonner as a role player, but thats way too many years and dollars for a 30 year old one trick pony.

I really like Bonner as a person and i'm glad he got paid, but it sucks we had too be the team to pay him.

Ehh... why?

He is a guy who should be at the tail end of the rotation.... and those guys don't get over 3 million.

Now this gets a little confusing.

If we bring in Bonner, then him and Dice brings the same thing to the table. We know what Duncan brings. Blair gives us that energy. Splitter... we'll see. but Bonner and Dice is here for their shooting. You're not gonna play 5 bigs in a game. the 4th big usually plays very little minutes anyways. Having 5 bigs to a multi year contract just doesn't make sense.

The thing is, i'm afraid that Pop likes Bonner too much and overuse him. Atleast with Dice, we know he's getting old and that he's somewhat uninterested in playing the regular season. That alone should give opportunities for Splitter and Blair to be huge contributor. Bonner back and Pop goes to him too much because despite not being overly productive on the defense, he does spread the floor, hustle, and doesn't make many mistakes. Things Pop seems to like a lot.

I rather have Bonner move to Miami. Atleast we'll know that they're gonna be pretty weak upfront with Bosh and Bonner.

Bonner seems like to be the type of guy a coach like Pop likes a lot.

I remember Sam Mitchell really used him a lot to. Kinda think of him as a Michael Curry type of guy, likeable, works hard, plays within his limits, and understands the game well.

I like Bonner alot but not sure if he is worth more than 3 mil per yr. I'll wait and see how everything shakes out before I start calling this a bad deal.

Bonner spreads the floor, is a great locker room guy, and inbodies who the Spurs are 'minus his D'

4 year is too long. 3 mil as a starting salary is too much. Even if the average is 3 mil, it's still too much.

Given his age, I think 3 year should've been the most we give him. And given his skills, I think 2 mil is his value.

Stupid move

I don't mind him coming back, but at 4 damn years? Christ. 2, maybe 3.... not four.

Bonner can't be playing late-game minutes much next year... seriously
