Tanking

Post#1 » by Jazzfan12 » Mon Jul 12, 2010 3:13 pm

If the Jazz could get another likely superstar by throwing a season (Purposely winning like 20 games), would you do it? I think I would.

No. As Sloan would say - you don't teach your players to lose!

Tanking isn't the only way to get a likely superstar. And there are no guarantees. Now they may find themselves fielding the best team they are able (due to salary constraints, etc.) and not do very well. But even in that kind of circumstance I'd still be pulling for the team to get wins. Losing (if you can help it) is not cool...

Bad team in a unatractive city.....no thanks. Our yearly playoff runs and Dwill are our only shots at landing a star. A few sundays in the church of Okur help too!

While I tend to agree, it worked in SA. And that is a similar market size and similarly attractive location.

No.

There is no way that the Miller's, Sloan, or KOC will ever agree to that.

It may have worked in SA, but there are countless times it hasn't worked, including Cleveland. Not worth it to me. That's a lot of missed revenue if the Jazz don't make the playoffs that this team desperately needs.

Cleveland went from nothing to a championship contender for seven years thanks to tanking.

But they never won it, and now they have nothing. Not a great scenario.

Lebron and Duncan are extremely rare. There is rarely a #1 that makes a team an instant contender over night.

Wall - don't think so (time will tell though)
Rose - no
Oden - no
Bargnini - no
Bogut - no
Howard - yes
Lebron - yes
Ming - no
Brown - no
Martin - no
Brand - no
Olowokandi - no
Duncan - yes
Iverson - yes
Smith - no
Robinson - no
Webber - no
Shaq - yes
L Johnson - no
Coleman - no

Out of the last 20 years, I would say only 5 players were good enough to carry thier team and make them title contenders on their own. Only Duncan and Shaq have won the championship too.

I am not sure who the top prospects are for the next draft but if ESPN hasn't started cramming them down my throat they probably aren't as good has Lebron. Just because you are the worst team, doesn't mean that you will win the lottery.

Simply no. You just don't purposely lose, especially in a market like Utah. Is there really anyone that great coming out next year that we would want anyway? Besides, Deron won't allow this team to tank; he likes winning too damn much.

Millers will never let it happen. They would lose too much money for a "chance" at a superstar. Whether we are a title contender or not the Jazz have to be a playoff contender to make money.

The Jazz have had one losing season in 25 years. We don't tank. And to be honest that's something I'm proud of.
